Concert - Chiaroscuro String Quartet

Since 2005, the international Chiaroscuro Quartet – from Russia, Spain, Sweden and France - has performed classical and early romantic period repertoire on gut strings with historical bows.  This creates their critically acclaimed unique sound.   We will first hear Beethoven’s lively Op. 18 No 5 followed by the reflective tones of one of Schumann’s only set of works for this ensemble. Schubert’s fabulous ‘Death and the Maiden’ quartet rounds off this programme.  This quartet, written when the composer realised that he was dying, is named after a poem ‘Der Tod und das Mädchen’ which the composer had previously set to music.   ‘… playing is intense and refined, exploratory and poised. ’The Guardian Beethoven       Quartet in A major Op. 18 No 5 Schumann       Quartet in A minor Op. 41 No 1 Schubert          Quartet in D minor D810 ‘Death & the Maiden’ If you are interested in this concert, why not consider buying a season ticket - save over £25 and support the society!  Find out more on our website www.morpeth-musoc.org.uk Watch a video of the quartet performing the 'Death and the Maiden' quartet here
