Postgraduate Diploma in Trauma & PTSD

This Postgraduate Diploma (PG Dip) course is designed to be different from others. First-hand experience, as well as feedback from colleagues and supervisees, led Lucia Hall to write a course that would give participants the training necessary to implement a systematic, evidence-based treatment approach for diverse forms of trauma, especially complex traumas. Other courses tend to give a lot of theory from diverse trauma approaches, but leave participants without a clear idea of how to go about implementing a coherent treatment process. This course will provide participants with clear, comprehensive and systematic procedures to effectively assess and treat trauma clients, while still allowing the therapist plenty of scope for flexibility. The course also includes two days on treating trauma in children, utilising an approach recognised throughout the world. The effective treatment of complex trauma is inherently integrative; as complex trauma is different from normal counselling or psychotherapy, it requires a separate approach. The process learned on this course can be used by practitioners trained in different counselling and psychotherapy models. This course also incorporates monthly group supervision to enhance your learning process. Course Structure: 20 days over 11 weekends, one weekend each month for 12 months (not in August). Course content: PTSD: Introduction to a Systematic Treatment Approach. Definition, Diagnosis of Complex PTSD. Attachment and Trauma. Assessment & Formulation of Complex PTSD. Safety, Stabilisation & Normalisation of Complex PTSD. The Neuroscience, Dissociation and the Psychopharmacology of PTSD. Emotion Regulation. An Evidence-Based Treatment for Type I PTSD. An Imagery Approach for Treating Complex Type II PTSD. Cognitive Processing Therapy for Trauma. Trauma and Comorbidities: Nightmares, Depression, Suicide Ideation. Other Approaches and Working with Specific Populations. Trauma and Children: KIDNET.

PHOTOGRAPHIC EXHIBITION BY SIMON PRUNTY

Simon Prunty is an artist from Dublin. He is a graduate of NCAD (The National College of Art and Design) with a Bachelor's Degree in Fine Art Media.

Simon’s photographic work focuses on a passionate revival of traditional analogue photographic practices and his most recent ongoing body of work is based entirely in traditional black and white 35mm and Medium Format analogue photography; entitled, “Looking for Peace”.

Each image is hand-printed by the artist in the darkroom on archival silver gelatin paper. The work explores a quiet, minimalist and mysterious aesthetic, assuming no concrete answers about the world it depicts, but rather displays scenes with an almost agnostic nature; gathering questions and celebrating the unknowable.

Simon has also taught traditional darkroom skills to students at DUPA (Dublin University Photography Association) in Trinity College, Dublin.

This exhibition will be displayed in our Easter Snow Gallery throughout June and July from 10am to 4:30pm daily.
Admission is free. All welcome.

It was an informative and productive day that’s given me an immense boost towards completion of my senior fellowship application. It made a real difference to be in a working environment with no interruptions and with support and advice at hand all day. Emily, School of Law Tea and coffee will be provided, but please bring any other refreshments you may require. Spaces are limited and will be allocated on a first come first served basis. This is an opportunity for participants who have already signed up to the SET Open Pathway Framework. If you are interested in this professional development opportunity but have not yet attended an Introduction. Please sign up here. The Writing Retreat was a fantastic way to get one-to-one feedback on my case studies and to understand how best to articulate the key elements of my experience. Carving out dedicated writing time was very effective, plus the setting was great.
