St Agnes Fountain

St Agnes Fountain are about to embark on their 16th consecutive sell-out Christmas tour. Since their first get together, to record the eponymous St Agnes Fountain album in 2001, the quartet of founder, David Hughes; Fairport Convention's Chris Leslie and 2009's BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards Best Duo, Chris While and Julie Matthews, have brought musical invention and laughter to the star-dust atmosphere of the season. Although the albums accompany the putting up of a thousand Christmas trees throughout Britain, it is, without question, their magical live performances that have endeared them to an ever-growing audience (tickets were again being sold for this year's tour as the curtain fell last year). They hope to bring you, this December, more of their sparkling musicianship, humour and heartful renditions of your favourite Christmas tunes both original and those you know so well (or thought you did). Christmas, as they say, starts with St Agnes Fountain. In addition to this amazing concert we are also offering a 2 course set menu dinner in our bistro before the show for £10. so why not join us for a fantastic meal before enjoying the festive concert! (there is a set sit down time of 6.30pm in order to have service finished in time for the show)

Oil Painting with Ewan Walton in Newton Abbot

New to oil painting, returning after a break or wanting to paint alongside other like minded, creative people? You're welcome to join Ewan Walton to learn his techniques and have a go at creating your own painting! Ewan Says: "I have always enjoyed drawing, both in colour and in black and white. I developed a distinctive style with coloured pencil during my teens, favouring rather surreal subjects from my imagination and also copying artwork from album covers, creating posters using their imagery. I put these skills to good use as publicity officer for the Quaich Society, Gilbert and Sullivan Society and RockSoc during my degree studies at the University of St. Andrews. While in St. Andrews I became a sought-after set designer and painter for student theatre productions. This arose from a casual enquiry regarding set painting for a production of G&S's 'The Gondoliers'. As it happens, they were high and dry with show time looming, so I jumped in at the deep end and the rest, as they say, is history. Since my degree I have become proficient in oils as well as pencil, starting with local landscapes and diversifying into the world of fine art pet portraits. I have taken part in several exhibitions in South Devon since 2006 and was an artist in residence at Hannah's at Seale Hayne in 2010-11." These relaxed Thursday morning sessions are enjoyed by local beginners aswell as more established artists to share inspiration and gain feedback for their work!

Norwegian Inspiration

The natural world for many artists is a diverse and expansive source of inspiration, it's power and beauty evoking experience which is at once uniquely personal and universally shared in us all. For Pauline Talbot, it is the solitude, quiet and sense of place within nature that guides her richly vibrant and textural work. The influence of the natural world is resonant both in her 2D oil and mixed media landscapes, and unusual forms of her 3D ceramics and sculptures. Also joining us in September as part of Devon Open Studios, Pauline will be showing a mixture of her work across her 2D and 3D practice.

Making Sense of Health Research Annual Conference

Event Details: At PenCLAHRC we believe that better health care can be provided to patients by making decisions that are based on evidence.  During this event our expert tutors will help you to discover how to use evidence to make effective health and social care decisions.  Draft Programme for the day: For descriptions of the workshops on offer, please go to our website. To book your place (free of charge) and choose your workshops, please register above.  Please note that registrations received from applicants based within the geographical area served by PenCLAHRC will be prioritised. FAQs What are my transportation/parking options for getting to and from the event? If you are travelling by car, please click here for driving directions to the Conference Centre car park.   The nearest railway station to the venue is Totnes: it is served by direct trains from both Exeter St David's and Plymouth and by the Stagecoach no. 88 bus service, which passes Buckfast Abbey.   Please see the National Rail Enquiries Journey Planner for details of trains to and from Totnes. A taxi fare from the station to the Conference Centre is estimated at around £15 each way, so it may be best to try to coordinate your travel plans with colleagues if you are intending to arrive by rail and taxi. How can I contact the organizer with any questions? If you have any questions, please email [email protected] Do I need to bring my own lunch? Lunch and refreshments will be provided.  If you have any special dietary requirements, please ensure that you note these during the registration process when prompted. The workshop I would like to register for is fully booked. Please email [email protected]: we may be able to fit you in, or give you first refusal if there is a cancellation. Please note that, where you have selected two workshops which are running twice during the day (for example, the Tracking Down the Evidence and Critical Appraisal of a Randomised Controlled Trial modules), we may swap your morning and afternoon sessions in order to achieve a more even distribution of group size. I'm not based within the South West Peninsula.  Can I still register? While we are keen to accommodate anyone with an interest in the Conference programme, we do need to give priority to applicants based within our geographical catchment area, i.e. Cornwall, Devon and southern Somerset.  We are currently able to accept a few out-of-area bookings; however, we may need to revise this policy as the number of available places diminishes.  Please contact us if you are in any doubt as to whether you are likely to be eligible for a place.
