Nantwich Modern Slavery Awareness

Nantwich Town Council is joining forces with the South Cheshire Chamber of Commerce and Libre Solutions Ltd (not for profit company), to raise awareness of modern slavery and the exploitation of vulnerable people.  Slavery is the fastest growing organised-crime in the world, hidden in plain sight. Unfortunately, many are unaware that it exists within our communities and businesses. All local stakeholders need to work together to help eradicate modern slavery.  Mayor of Nantwich, Councillor David Marren said “Figures released by the National Crime Agency in 2017 stated that 116 different nationalities were victims of modern slavery here in the UK and whilst no exact number is known the estimated figure of modern slavery and labour abuse victims in the UK runs into hundreds of thousands! I am appalled that in 2017 slavery abuse was reported in every county in the UK, including Cheshire”.  To help us all in raising our knowledge & understanding on slavery & labour abuse, we will run an awareness event that will take place on the 19th November 2018 at the Civic Hall in Nantwich starting at 12:00pm. It is a free of charge event and speakers will explain how to recognise the signs of modern slavery and if it is found, how to deal with it, both for residents and local businesses.  Jacqui Morris, International Trade Manager at South Cheshire Chamber commented “Modern slavery is often associated with supply chain businesses based abroad, but we have seen an increase in our country too. The Chamber wants to help raise the awareness of modern slavery and protect our local businesses from this criminal activity, including their supply chain.”  At the event, residents and business will receive a presentation from Chamber Members Libre Solutions, who specialise in helping businesses to identify and tackle modern slavery that could be affecting their companies. Their aim is to work with business communities to help them protect and prevent slavery and labour abuse from entering the supply chain. Keynote speakers: Shayne Tyler - Operations Executive at Manor Fresh Ltd. Paul Elms - Head of Prevent  at Gangmasters Labour Abuse Authority (GLAA)    If you wish to register for the event use the eventbrite link below or contact: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/nantwich-modern-slavery-awareness-tickets-49057225482 Paul Miller at Libre Solutions on 07825 167019 or [email protected]

At the end of the session, you will have an opportunity to book a further one-to-one mentoring session that focuses on developing your individual action plan, marketing and sales. You can choose from our two expert business mentors: Adele Cope was previously Head of Business Growth at Staffordshire Chambers of Commerce, with responsibility for delivering projects to support companies of all sizes from start-up to corporate with their growth strategies across Staffordshire. Adele has now set up her own consultancy called Let’s Do Ltd, through which she  provides businesses with expert support in business funding, business and marketing plans, bid writing, project and event management and delivery. Taking part is easy and flexible: simply choose from the wide range of inspiring talks, practical workshops and one-to-one mentoring meetings that appeal to you and book onto them through Eventbrite - then your Maker Bootcamp experience is custom made for you. You will also get the chance to learn how to use and access the Wavemaker maker-space and equipment, and get the chance to network with other creatives over pizza and beer. All events are free to attend, as the cost of taking part (average £678 per person for each complete Maker Bootcamp experience) is supported and funded by the Nat West Skills & Opportunities Fund. We ask two things of you: If you cannot attend, please cancel your Eventbrite booking. Places on each event are limited, so it’s important to release your place if you cannot make it, so that someone else can book. We also ask that makers who attend the workshops book onto a complimentary mentoring session to make the most of their Maker Boot Camp experience and to receive the necessary support to turn their ambitions and ideas into reachable targets and goals.
