Know Yourself, Know Your Strategy (Better Leaders = Better Business!)

Know Yourself, Know Your Strategy Leadership at a national level has never been under closer scrutiny, but what makes a good leader, and what are the challenges to good leadership, particularly in a social enterprise? This workshop will help participants: identify their own leadership style; clarify the differences between leading and managing teams; and identify key areas to develop skills, experience and confidence, with a focus on organisational strategic development.  It will draw on social enterprise case studies, best practise and the latest thinking about Leadership, and provide some useful tools and tips for those in leadership roles. This workshop is the first in the Better Leaders = Better Business! Series, exploring Leadership in Social Enterprise. Better Leaders = Better Business! Having the necessary business skills to achieve long term sustainability is critical, but how many of us possess the natural leadership to inspire our team and share a vision of success yet to happen? Commitment, confidence, clarity, communication and an honest ability to understand ourselves are critical elements in a social enterprise leader’s toolkit. Better Leaders = Better Business! workshops are designed to develop those leadership and management skills. The workshops provide a chance to explore your leadership style, to share challenges and seek solutions to leading staff and volunteers through often choppy waters in a fast-changing environment.  They provide a safe space to reflect on your own practise, and the vision and direction of your organisation.  Drawing on examples from social and commercial enterprise, the workshops will help learners to build their own leadership toolkit, and thus increase the potential social impact their organisations can create. Attendees registered through the Enhance Social Enterprise (Enhance SE) programme can also benefit from business mentoring, picking up on some of the themes addressed in this and other forthcoming workshops. Audience: This workshop will appeal to staff within social enterprises who are, or aspire to be, in leadership roles, whatever the size of the organisation.  This may include team leaders, project leaders, CEO’s, but not exclusively. Cost: This workshop is FREE to social enterprises registered on the #EnhanceSE Social Enterprise ERDF Programme.  Registering for the programme entitles eligible social enterprises to access up to 12 hours of support (through workshops and tailored mentoring).   This workshop is part of a programme of support available to eligible social enterprises to enable them to grow their skills and expertise, and in doing so, grow their social business.  All eligible attendees will need to complete a short online registration form before or on the day.  Please check here to see if you are eligible https://www.heartofswgrowthhub.co.uk/gsp-apply/ and register for #EnhanceSE PRIOR to booking onto the event.  When registering online for the #EnhanceSE Programme please ensure, after the “Are you a social enterprise” question, that you add in the notes: “Please refer straight through to Enhance Social Enterprise Support - Cosmic”.  Thank you. NB.  Registering for Enhance SE is different to booking for this workshop - you also need to hit the Register button to register for this workshop!

Mid-Somerset Orchestra performs Mozart's Horn Concerto No 3

Our guest conductor is Richard Jones who gained his MA from the University of York, specialising in youth music. Always a keen advocate for youth and community music, Richard currently works as the Music and Arts Strategy Manager for South Gloucestershire. He is involved with orchestras and ensembles around the South West.

Mid-Somerset Orchestra's Principal Horn, Jonathan Benger, who has been with the orchestra since 2012, is tonight’s soloist. Jonathan also plays in Frome Symphony Orchestra and gives regular recitals as a solo player and in chamber ensembles.

The concert begins with Beethoven’s Overture 'Coriolan', composed in 1807 for Heinrich Joseph von Collin’s play. The overture remains a firm concert favourite, but the play languishes in obscurity.

Mozart’s Horn Concerto No 3 was written in the 1780’s for his life-long friend Joseph Leutgeb.

Mozart’s Comic Opera 'Cosi Fan Tutte', premiered in Vienna in 1790 opens the second half. It includes 2 appearances of a very significant musical reference to the ensuing opera.

Haydn’s Symphony No 99 is one of his 12 London Symphonies, written in Vienna during 1793 when he was anticipating a second trip to London.

The Portraits live at Archangel Frome

The Portraits, Alt-Folk duo who played live on Clare Balding's BBC Radio 2 show in 2017 and who performed at the last Glastonbury Festival, are delighted to be playing their first concert in the beautiful, buzzing town of Frome, on Sunday afternoon, 21st January 2018. It will be a free entry event in the lovely Archangel venue. The Portraits are launching a new project recording the voices of every crowd they play to for a new 'Song of Unity' - an upbeat positive anthem to unite us all in this period of division and uncertainty - on which all those who take part will be individually named on the final single. There are some big players in the media lining up to get hold of the final track, so make sure to come along and contribute to a piece of history! At this concert, The Portraits will also be debuting some brand new material. Places will be limited, so early arrival is highly recommended.
