FREE Emergency Planning Workshop for Parishes

*PLEASE NOTE, Two free places per parish for parish council members or others interested in helping to prepare and operate a plan. If further spaces are needed please contact [email protected] in advance.  Emergency planning is about putting strategies in place to reduce the impact of an incident. We know communities pull together to support each other when emergencies occur. However, you can make your response even more organised and effective, by preparing a Community Emergency Plan. There is no way of knowing if, when, or under what circumstances you may need to have a community plan, but, having a plan will make you feel confident you’ve done everything you can if an emergency occurs. AIMS AND OBJECTIVES Topics covered will include: Why a community emergency plan? Terminology Planning for an emergency What to do in an emergency Keeping your plan effective Support, funding and information Using a 'toolkit' ABOUT YOUR TUTOR  Martin Rich Martin is an expert in community led planning, often called parish or town plans, which are often the turnkey to many actions that build and bind communities. Village halls take up much of Martin’s time, providing advice on governance, management, building works and funding. Working with village hall committees to enhance these key facilities is a major contribution to community sustainability. He also advises on the development and protection of sport, play and recreation facilities and is an energy advisor, helping people navigate the complexities of the energy market and dealing with intricate cases of fuel poverty. Additionally, he gives presentations on the role of DCT to parish meetings and local groups and organises our stand at Devon County Show and a number of local shows, so that we can get 'out and about', to meet the communities we help. Martin has put together programmes for our Rural Futures Conference, giving him a chance to promote the development of rural communities and local facilities. He also helps to organise the annual visit of Dutch university students for a fieldwork fortnight but is still waiting for the invitation back! SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS Please let Support Services know if there is anything that would affect your learning and if there is anything we can do to enable you to fully participate in our courses and we will do our best to accommodate you. Imbolc Yoga Nidra Day Retreat

A warm welcome to the Imbolc Yoga Nidra Day RetreatImbolc is about the stirring of new life in the earth and the first intimations of spring. We'll take the theme of the fertile darkness. February 1st is St Brigid's day, the Celtic-Christian festival and this is a strongly female time. 'Imbolc' has etymology of budding, cleansing, milk and 'in the belly'. What is it gestating in you, waiting to see the light of spring? Imbolc is the Celtic cross quarter festival between the winter solstice and the spring equinox. It's a time when we can be close to Spirit and subtle energies, perfect for tuning in with the practice of yoga nidra. It's a potent moment of the year with Candlemass too; in the church festival candles symbolise Christ, light of the world, so we'll use candles to bless ourselves with all that is positive, bringing hope and the knowledge we are loved. With gentle yoga, yoga nidra, yummy vegan food, nature connection, the making of Brigid's crosses and candle lighting, and a workshop to vision your next move, this will be a full, grounding and light-filled day. NOTE this day can be taken as part of a 2 night retreat, or simple overnight B&B  Yoga in tranquil DevonThe peace of rural mid Devon at this change of the season is the setting for relaxing and letting go so that new insight and inspiration flow. As well as yoga practices we'll be imbibing nature's autumn-into-winter feel. Mixed ability yogaThis is a retreat for anyone, including those new to yoga. In this day retreat being 'able' is more about the willingness to go within and use the breath than trained physical strength or flexibility. More experienced practitioners will have a chance to explore nidra more deeply. Yogic dietA yogic diet uplifts and gives energy. We eat fresh, wholesome, seasonal, delicious vegan food made with mainly local organic veg and organic ingredients. Recipes for prana and read more about the veganyogi diet. Nidra was a key tool in visioning Viveka Gardens Yoga Farm, a retreat place in Mid Devon. Vivekagardens.com Go to the instagram feed for images of Viveka Gardens. feedback from recent yoga nidra retreat days I enjoyed the simplicity, quiet and calming feeling of the environment, inside and out. Delicious food. Welcoming, accepting and friendly! A very safe and comfortable environment. The space feels uncluttered so allows you and your mind to be that as well. Very welcoming. Viveka Gardens has an aura about it so that when you enter through the door, it feels different and you can leave everything else outside. Fiona opened a door into an interesting way of thinking about and practicing yoga nidra and how it can benefit you in ways I hadn’t considered. It was a fascinating day which has encouraged me to think about so my issues in a different way. The setting is beautiful and incredibly relaxing. Don’t come here on a diet either as the food is gorgeous! A thoroughly enjoyable yoga nidra day. Fiona created a welcoming and safe space to explore our sankalpa.
