Love Food Hate Waste & Food Surplus Cafe workshop - Crediton

Are you passionate about good food? Would you like to support people in your community to reduce food waste? Or perhaps you'd like to help run community meals using surplus food from supermarkets, farms and the high street as part of a Food Surplus Café? In the UK, we throw away over 7 million tonnes of household food and drink every year, the majority of which could have been eaten. The average family with kids wastes around £700. There is also enormous amounts of good quality unwanted food available from local producers and shops which can be turned into tasty community meals. The same workshop is being running in Cullompton on Sat 23rd June if you are unable to make this one. Please not that it is NOT a practical cookery workshop. This day is in two parts: The morning session will be run by Beth from Somerset Waste Partnership and using lots of interactive activities from Love Food Hate Waste she will help you understand the key reasons why people waste food in the home. She will provide lots of practical ideas so that you can help other people eat well and waste less. You'll be able to pick up a resource pack full of activities and you'll be able to borrow displays and equipment from CAG Devon to take to community events. The afternoon will look at the steps needed to set up a Food Surplus Cafe in your community; from sourcing and storing food, to recruiting volunteers, health and hygiene, publicity and all the things you need to consider to turn a mound of unwanted food into a free meal for the community. For the Crediton session you will get the chance to hear from the Sustainable Crediton Waste Action Group about the Food Surplus Cafes that the group has trialled in Crediton and from CAG Devon about the support they can offer you to set up your own group. Do give us a call or email if you'd like to find out more.

Day Retreat: and relax, it’s the end of term

A day of yoga, yoga nidra, yummy vegan food, circle, gentle work on the land or rest. For all teachers, parents, workers who could do with a help sliding into the summer holidays. Enjoy ashram-style living for the day at rural retreat place Viveka Gardens Yoga Farm. The theme for the day is letting go and letting in. Through yoga asanas, yoga nidra (guided lying down, meditation), time in nature and possibly with our hands in the earth we’ll go to a deep level of relaxation and come home to ourselves. We’ll be looking at dropping our busy lives and, if ready, visioning new ways, or maybe just setting a space for energy to emerge as and when. This day will energise your yoga practise and relax your being. Take time out to get perspective, nurture and nourish yourself. Enjoy the peace of rural mid-Devon and soak in the prana of nature. I love that we all felt like a little family and the energy built up was truly empowering. Cannot say thank you enough. DH A wonderful practice, and very well-timed for me. It’s had a significantly profound effect on me at a point in my life where I’m leaving my career and moving forward into new things. Angela, Tavistock Just what I needed to rebirth, go inward and rest. The body and mind just wanted to feel contentment, without attaching anything to outcome. I got just this. PW-P Yesterday was a truly wonderful experience. I feel an amazing sense of clarity today.
