Nashville in the Round

A Nashville - Style ‘In The Round’ concert featuring the combined talents of three hugely gifted artists: Jesse Terry, Lizanne Knott, Michael Logen They will each play a selection of songs from their respective past and present releases, combine on duets and never seen before collaborations, and share the stories behind their songs. Jesse Terry "Stargazer, nigh perfect, sweeps you in and on first hearing overwhelms... this is music to revel in, so just revel till the starlight fades." Nick West, RnR Magazine  A true musical journeyman, New England-based singer/songwriter Jesse Terry has made it his mission to share his love of music fully and completely, without regard for shading his emotions or tempering his convictions.  The ability to create a connection, to bare his soul and express his feelings through his songs has been the defining thread in a career that began in 2010 and has spawned five albums (The Runner, Empty Seat on a Plane, Stay Here With Me, and his latest pair, Stargazer and Natural). A career that has seen Terry play over a thousand shows around the world, including such notable festivals as Bonnaroo, 30A Songwriters Festival, Philadelphia Folk Festival and the Americana Music Association’s AmericanaFest. Natural, a very sparse and acoustic album compared to its predecessor Stargazer, finds Jesse relying on a more organic approach to his music, while adding an additional layer of emotional impact with the help of some of the female singers he admires most: Dar Williams, Cary Ann Hearst of Shovels & Rope, Liz Longley, Kim Richey, Annie Clements, Sarah Darling and Erin Rae.  Lizanne Knott "absolutely gorgeous music. We've rarely had as big a reaction in recent years that we've had for Lizanne Knott"  Bob Harris BBC2 A long standing member of the Philadelphia music scene and partner of Grammy Award Winning MorningStar Studios, Lizanne Knott has also managed to make herself a home in Nashville as well as the UK. She has been captivating audiences throughout the US and UK, garnering accolades from radio listeners and peers around the globe. She has performed at some of the most prestigious listening venues, theaters and concert halls throughout the US, UK and Spain and at a growing number of mainstream festivals including; The Philadelphia Folk Fest, The Canterbury Festival (England) The Belfast Fest (Ireland) and The Sala BBK Fest (Spain). She has shared the stage with the likes of Shawn Colvin, Joan Osbourne, Josh Ritter, Jimmy Webb, JD Souther, Lucy Kaplansky, Melody Gardot and more. A frequent featured artist on London's acclaimed Bob Harris Show, BBC2 and other BBC stations, she also receives airplay on AAA radio throughout the US. Her music has been used in independent films, TV movies, documentaries and by national non-profit organizations.  Michael Logen  “Mark him down as one to watch, very closely” - Americana UK  Grammy-Nominated Folk/Americana artist Michael Logen is based in Nashville, but also tours extensively throughout the UK, Ireland, Switzerland, Netherlands and Denmark. He has opened for artists like John Legend, John Hiatt, Mat Kearney, Jonny Lang and India Arie and his music can be heard on NPR, BBC, VH1 and TV shows like, “Nashville”, “Suits”, “Parenthood”, “One Tree Hill” and “The Fosters”.  Also a Grammy-winning, Platinum-selling Songwriter, Michael's songs have been recorded by artists such as Kelly Clarkson, Mat Kearney, Jonny Lang, Paul Carrack, The Greencards, Will Hoge, Delerium and many others.

Mid-Atlantic

A Specially Curated 10th Anniversary Opening Night Event Poems and Music from Neil Martin, Frank Ormsby and Anthony Toner Acclaimed poet Frank Ormsby makes a long-awaited return to Flowerfield for a special Atlantic Sessions 10th birthday appearance – in the company of two of Northern Ireland’s foremost musicians: songwriter Anthony Toner and composer Neil Martin. All three were collaborators on the spoken-word-and-music CD The Kiss of Light, released earlier this year and featuring poems read by Frank and instrumentals composed by Anthony and featuring Neil on cello and Linley Hamilton on trumpet. They are reunited for this special evening of poetry, stories and music. The evening will feature readings from Frank – by turns profoundly moving and laugh-out-loud funny - and a selection of cello-and-guitar instrumentals from the Kiss of Light project, as well as songs from Anthony’s extensive back catalogue, and some gorgeous solo cello pieces and stories from Neil Martin. All of this laced with the kind of easy onstage rapport you can expect from these friends and well-travelled artists. For this special concert as part of the Atlantic Sessions' 10th birthday, all three will include works with a tang of the salt air about them - Anthony will feature a brand new song, 'Lost at Sea', while Neil will play his wonderful rendition of 'Port na bPucai', a tune from the Blasket Islands.

Sunday Brunch feat Kitt Philippa, Arborist, Ciara O’Neill & Matt McGinn

Curated for the 10th Anniversary of Atlantic Sessions by Ralph McLean: “I’m thrilled once again to curate the much loved Sunday Brunch at the glorious Flowerfield.  I go way back with the Atlantic Sessions so getting to hand pick a selection of my favourite artists to play “In The Round” is a real honour that I look forward to every year.  I’m always in awe at the sheer amount of musical talent we have in this country and the sheer range of musical styles we produce never fails to amaze me. That eclectic range of sounds is reflected in this years Brunch line up.  We’ve got rising star Kitt Philippa, whose beautiful blend of electronica and song writing has been winning them friends all over in 2018, the hugely talented Ciara O’Neill, whose gorgeous album Arrow is one of my essential releases of the year so far, Armagh songsmith Matt McGinn, who’s long been a favourite on my BBC radio shows, and a performance from the sublimely talented Mark McCambridge AKA Arborist to look forward to.  All that plus the warmth of a Portstewart welcome and the promise of a bacon roll!  What more could you ask for on a cold November lunchtime?  Personally I can hardly wait!”

Emily Barker In Concert

Supported by Rory Nellis We are delighted to welcome Emily back to Limavady after her outstanding concert with Ciaran Lavery in 2016. Emily Barker is perhaps best known as the writer and performer of the award-winning theme to BBC crime drama Wallander starring Kenneth Branagh. She has released music as a solo artist as well as with various bands including The Red Clay Halo, Vena Portae and Applewood Road (with whom she released a remarkable album of original songs recorded live around a single microphone, which was dubbed “flawless” by The Sunday Times) and has written for film, including composing her first feature film soundtrack (for Jake Gavin’s lauded debut feature Hector starring Peter Mullan and Keith Allen). Emily's latest album Sweet Kind of Blue was recorded at Sam Phillips Recording Service in Memphis with Grammy winning producer Matt Ross-Spang (Jason Isbell, Margo Price) and an all-star cast of Memphis session players. The success of the album, with it’s seamless mix of soul, blues, country and folk influences, and the globe-trotting tours to support it helped land Emily the accolade of UK Artist of the Year 2018 at the recent UK Americana Awards held at Hackney Empire in London.  Emily performs in our candlelit cabaret style intimate auditorium. This is a BYO event.    Praise for Sweet Kind of Blue  “finally sets out her true claim for stardom” Q ★★★★ "the arrangements are exquisite and the clear love [Barker] has for this music brings its own integrity" The Times ★★★★ "the sweltering funk of Sunrise and the title track sound like lost Muscle Shoals gems” UNCUT 8/10 Mojo ★★★★   Express ★★★★  RnR ★★★★★
