Hatha Yoga Flow Class Mondays - Wootton

These classes will continue throughout Summer :-) This Hatha Yoga Flow class is aimed at those with a basic level of fitness and mobility. Beginners welcome, but be prepared for a challenge.    The intention is for you to leave each class feeling re-energised and refreshed, bringing flexibility back to your joints and muscles, and with a clearer and peaceful mind. The emphasis is on core strength flexibility and balance, working through core yoga poses as we progress through classes. I will provide modifications for you as needed to help you build up to peak poses as you build your own strength and flexibility over classes.  I'll also introduce you to some breathing and relaxation techniques to help bring peace to the mind and body.  As we progress through classes the aim is for you to get a good grasp of key yoga poses, and how to adapt and modify them for you, taking into account any limitations due to injury or current flexibility and strength.   If you're already familiar with the poses, you'll get some useful tips on alignment, its always good to get back to the basics of a pose.  You will become familiar with linking poses into short sequences and flows, and learn some basic breathing and relaxation exercises to help encourage a calm mind and release tension.    For those those returning to yoga after a break, beginners or more experienced Yogis looking for a local class, drop in.  This might just be the class for you. Classes open to all, but aimed at those with a fair level of basic fitness. £10 per session. Drop-ins Welcome.  Just bring a mat and yourself. And water when its hot. Reserve yourself a space by registering a ticket through Eventbrite or Facebook (no payment necessary until the evening). 2018 John D Lawson Lecture at Rutherford Appleton Laboratory (video linked to Chadwick Room at Daresbury Laboratory)

Extreme Science with X-Ray Free Electron Lasers by Professor Justin Wark Professor of Physics at the University of Oxford    Abstract On the 10th April 2009, in the course of a single morning as the 100 metres of undulators were aligned with micron precision, the spectral brightness of man-made x-ray sources increased by a factor of a billion as a new machine, the LCLS X-Ray Free Electron Laser, started operation. Since that time this so-called “4th generation light source” has had immense impact across many scientific disciplines. In this talk I will outline the revolution it is starting to have in “extreme physics’, where for periods of time ranging from a few femtoseconds to nanoseconds we can create and diagnose, in a controlled manner, matter that is similar to that which exists half way to the centre of the sun, or towards the centre of giant planets. Whilst significant progress has been made over the past decade, further advances are imminent as a result of an STFC collaboration with UK academia and the European XFEL that will allow such extreme states to be produced at high repetition rates.   John D Lawson was one of RAL’s most celebrated scientists. His research covered many areas of science, he was well known for his many contributions to accelerator physics and fusion that include the Lawson - Woodward theorem and the Lawson criterion. A special RAL Lecture is held each year in his honour.
