Soap Making Workshop

This course will introduce you to the art of cold process soap making. Courses usually start around 10am with an informal chat about soap over essential morning refreshments: think locally ground coffee, tea, spring water from Dartmoor springs, handmade cakes and fresh croissants. After ‘breakfast’ we will talk you through your first batch (roughly 8 bars each) and you will watch a quick interactive demonstration of soap making. The workshop will then be yours and you will be free to make two batches of soap using your own combination of essential oils and botanicals from our extensive range. During the course of the day we will learn about: ·         The history and chemistry behind cold process soap making ·         Equipment needed and where to get it ·         Safety measures required ·         Which oils, butters and waxes can be used and the benefits each can offer ·         How to blend essential oils ·         What moulds can be used ·         Using botanicals from your own garden to decorate/colour your soaps naturally ·         How to treat and store your soap once it’s made ·         Advanced techniques such as ‘swirling’ or using goat’s milk ·         Troubleshooting We will provide refreshments however we do ask that you bring your own packed lunch and wear long sleeved clothes you don’t mind getting a little mucky in. We would be very grateful if you could let us know of any allergies beforehand. Please could you also: ·         Bring an apron and old towel ·         Wear shoes rather than open-toe sandals. You will leave with your own creations (approx. 16 bars), 2 reusable moulds, your own instruction folder with comprehensive notes, suggested recipes, an info sheet on where to source materials and hopefully a mind bursting with wonderful ideas for future batches! All, in all a great day out either for you or a friend as a special gift! £2 from every place booked on this course is dontacted to Dartmoor Pony Heritage Trust.

Stilettos Conference 2018

Stilettos is a movement passionate about adding value to the women within the local church, across the South West and globally. We are dedicated to helping every woman, through God’s Word and Holy Spirit, to believe that she is made for far more than what is temporary by encouraging, empowering and strengthening them in this journey called life. Stilettos is for ladies of all ages and backgrounds; from teenager to grandmother and from every church denomination and non-church background, with the purpose of unity and glorifying God, helping the vulnerable and believing that through Jesus we can be the change needed for the days we live. Organised by The Worship Centre in Estover, Plymouth, Stilettos is more than an event, it is an everyday action to reach, encourage and empower women, that once a year celebrates in a festive and special way.  Not only is there an annual one day women’s conference, but we support women in leadership through our Leading Ladies Lunch and She Values breakfasts.       What is the refund policy? Unfortunately all tickets purchased are non-refundable.  However, it is possible to transfer a ticket to another name by contacting the event organiser prior to the event.

Making Every Contact Count - Livewell Southwest

This accredited* training develops your skills and confidence in supporting people to improve their own health and wellbeing. The main focus is ‘healthy conversation skills’ – sensitive listening and asking – which can help people to change their behaviours.  This “full” MECC course is suitable for people who have contact with the public and who wish to develop and practice their skills in this important area. Making Every Contact Count (MECC) is about using our everyday encounters with other people to support healthier lifestyles. MECC is not about telling other people ‘what to do’ - and you’re not being expected to do extra work. MECC is based on having brief empathetic conversations - which can help support a person’s motivation to change. The training consists of 2 x 3 hour sessions, after you have taken some simple e-learning modules (of about 90 minutes duration). The 2 sessions are on consecutive weeks and you must attend both weeks to complete the training and gain the accreditation - Please note the ticket only shows the 1st week's date but you will be booked to attend the 2 sessions. *Training accredited as “MECC: healthy conversation skills” by the Royal Society for Public Health, via Public Health England and Health Education England (Wessex). We also offer an accredited “Mini- MECC” course based on a 1 x 3 hour group session + e–learning (takes 90 minutes). To find out more about this course please Click Here Learning outcomesThe session will equip participants with a range of specific MECC skills that will enable them to deliver MECC confidently and consistently well. At the end of the session, participants should be able to: • Understand the importance of healthy lifestyle choices and their role in health improvement; • Identify key messages (on smoking, healthy eating/healthy weight, responsible drinking, physical activity, and mental health and emotional wellbeing); • Use communication skills that will enable them to raise an issue, open up a conversation and assess a person's readiness to change the health-related behaviour; • Use a range of health behaviour change techniques (including basic motivational interviewing techniques); • Deliver brief advice and brief interventions; • Signpost clients to local healthy lifestyle services & support; and • Feel confident that they can apply the training in practice.
