School of Photography- Wonderful Southwold experience

Southwold is a lovely seaside town in Suffolk and a great destination for photographers and the home of Adnams brewery. Join us for a day of photography with tuition from our resident professional photographer Steve Marley. The day starts at the Adnams store in Southwold - the Cafe at the back - at 11 am for a drink and to go through what we will be doing. We will then set off on a tour of Southwold including the fantastic coloured beach huts, seafront, lighthouse etc. This will be a circular tour finishing back at the Adnams store at around 4.30 where you may wish to stock up on some of the wonderful products on offer. There will be a stop at around 1 pm where you will have the opportunity for lunch (not included).Your guide will provide full assistance and advice with settings for your camera, lens choice and composition. Steve will take images and show the results throughout the tour to help you along. This tour will provide great opportunities for landscapes, sea-scapes, close-up details, colour abstracts, street photography etc.  We recommend you travel light - a camera plus a wide angle plus a telephoto would be a good choice and a polarising filter would also be useful. You are welcome to bring a tripod but light levels are normally high so not necessary. Following the event, you can post some images to Flickr or send some to Steve for appraisal and helpful suggestions. Please note that you will receive an email from us a day or two before the event with full meeting point instructions and suggestions on what to bring with you.

A Night at the Symphony | Royal Philharmonic Orchestra

Classical music at its best! Hear this world-class ensemble perform a selection of orchestral classics with esteemed maestro Michele Mariotti on the podium in a programme that will thrill, delight and inspire.

Schumann’s tender and emotive Cello Concerto showcases the wonderful talent of tonight’s soloist, Richard Harwood. The opening fanfare of Tchaikovsky’s Fourth Symphony follows with fierceness and anguish alongside luscious melodies and swelling optimism. This is a work that will stir the senses.

TRiM: A Church for the World

Theological Refreshment in Ministry (TRiM) This, our annual regional short residential conference, is open to lay and ordained ministers, priests, local pastors, preachers, Readers and LLMs from all of the participating churches in the region. The conference provides an opportunity to learn and pray together in a relaxed atmosphere away from church duties. Each conference focuses on a particular area of theology. This year Tim Stevens will lead on…  A Church for the World – witnessing to the Kingdom in uncertain times  The mystic Evelyn Underhill wrote, “the prevalent notion that spirituality and politics have nothing to do with one another is the exact opposite of the truth. Once it is accepted in a realistic sense, the spiritual life has everything to do with politics. It means that certain convictions about God and the world become the moral and spiritual imperatives of our life.” We shall look at how these moral and spiritual imperatives are emerging for us as we live through times of change and profound uncertainty for church and nation, and how they might shape our preaching, teaching, witnessing and praying. The Bible and the Kingdom Witnesses to the Kingdom in today’s world Kingdom issues for our society The Incarnation and the Kingdom Praying the Kingdom Tim Stevens retired as Bishop of Leicester in 2015 after 15 years in that diocese. During that time he was convenor of the Bishops in the House of Lords, chair of the Children’s Society and founder of the St Philip’s centre for the study of other faiths. He was awarded a CBE in 2016. He now lives in Suffolk and is a non-executive director of the Norfolk and Suffolk NHS mental health trust. He is also Prelate of St John International - a global humanitarian organisation.  The cost is £120 and is payable at the time of booking.  For most participants, your CMD allowance should cover some or all of this, please contact your local CMD office once you have booked. Places are limited, so please register as soon as possible, and at the latest by 31 August 2018.  There will be a waiting list if the spaces are filled, and if places become free, they will be offered to those on the list.
