Human Copy Number Variation Community Meeting

Agenda:To be announced Description:The rare disease and oncogenetics fields have recently been strongly impacted by the NGS revolution. It is thus today possible to access the whole exome or genome information for a specific individual or tissue. In parallel to small rearrangements (single nucleotide variations, short insertions and deletions etc), large rearrangements, including Copy Number Variations (CNVs), are more difficult to detect but are more and more frequently being identified as linked to disease. The aim of this meeting is to establish the strategy for the Human Copy Number Variation Community (hCNV) within ELIXIR. ELIXIR Communities, when approved by the ELIXIR Heads of Nodes Committee, play the important role of driving the evolution of the ELIXIR Platforms (Data, Tools, Compute, Interoperability and Training). They may receive funding from ELIXIR to take part in packages of work leading to improved services, and they receive support from ELIXIR in holding an annual workshop. The aims of the Community, as set out in its application, are to: Define optimal CNV detection pipelines Create reference datasets Define a data exchange format to allow comparison of data generated by NGS experiments to data from other technologies such as CGH/SNP arrays/microarrays and to ensure interoperability Develop and provide access to innovative bioinformatics tools to target potential disease-causing genes Ensure the interconnection of various national/international databases to avoid silos through FAIRification. This meeting forms part of ELIXIR’s formal process for recognising hCNV within its suite of Communities. Initial Community Meetings should develop a limited number of objectives that link the Community into ELIXIR’s Platforms and other Communities and Use Cases. The strategy developed at the meeting will form the basis of a strategic document, to be published in F1000Research, that will form the foundation of the Community’s activities within ELIXIR. An outline of the expectations for these meetings can be accessed here. Travel and accommodationParticipants are required to make their own travel and accommodation arrangements for the meeting. More information on reaching the venue and nearby accommodation can be found here. The ELIXIR Hub will cover the following for all participants: Coffee breaks and lunch Reimbursement of travel and accommodation costs (maximum two nights) for delegates Delegates will be required to sign an attendance list. ContactPlease contact John Hancock ([email protected]) or Gary Saunders ([email protected]) for organisational queries.
