Makaton Beginners ALL DAY Workshop 2018-2019


Introduction to Makaton: Beginners Workshop Modules 1 & 2 Location: Springboard Opportunity Group, Kings Rise Children's Centre, Lodge Road, Chippenham, Wiltshire, SN15 3SY Time: 9.30 am-3.30 pm Cost: £50 Parent/Carer/Student £70 Professional Facilitator: Nina Hawkins, Independent Makaton Regional Tutor,  This workshop covers stages 1-2 from the Makaton Core Vocabulary plus some additional vocabulary. It is aimed at parents, carers and any professionals working with children, who are interested in using Makaton at home and in their workplace. The cost per person includes signing instruction (which will be given for approximately 100 signs), Makaton symbols, a manual containing a wealth of information about Makaton and a certificate of attendance issued on completion, giving you access to further courses. Refreshments will be offered, but please bring a packed lunch. Places are limited to 12 per workshop. Unfortunately, we are unable to accommodate children at this session. About the Day This session will look at some of the key skills and advice needed to manage a successful shop at a museum or heritage site. Starting with a review of the reasons for having a shop the day will include advice and discussion on: Measuring performance Sourcing, selecting and buying in stock Setting the selling price and achieving target gross profit margins Developing bespoke product Stock control Shopfitting There will also be an introduction to visual merchandising skills. Who should attend? The session is aimed at anyone responsible for running the shop or buying in stock at a small or medium size museum and especially those who may not have had much, or any, formal training in retail management skills in the past. What will you learn? Delegates will learn: How to measure and manage shop performance About a vision and buying policy for stock How and where to source suitable product How to set the selling price to achieve target gross profit margin How to go about developing bespoke products About the pros and cons of electronic stock control systems Some visual merchandising techniques Some key points for effective shopfitting How does this session relate to Arts Council England’s Accreditation Standard? 1.4: Effective forward planning 1.6: Demonstration of financial basis 3.1.6: respond to tourism and local priorities where appropriate Session Leader: Peter Holloway, Retail Thinking Peter has extensive experience of working with a broad range of clients in the heritage and cultural sectors and advising on many retail issues. He trained in the John Lewis Partnership, where he held management positions in several stores and worked in a variety of product fields. He was a buyer and Assistant to the General Manager in an independent department store before joining National Trust Enterprises where he was responsible for the management and profitability of all the Trust’s shops in Wales. The NHS organisations that commission and provide maternity services across Bath and North East Somerset, Swindon and Wiltshire have come together to develop a proposal to improve the maternity services we offer to families in our area. The proposal is currently out for public consultation and we invite you to an information session to hear about the proposal in more detail and give you the opportunity to ask questions. Patient Participation Groups are a key link into our communities and we value your support in helping to raise awareness of the proposal and encouraging people to get involved and have their say. ACEs Resilience Screening - Cirencester
