Teaching Habits of Mind: January 24, 2019 with a 2nd day TBD by participants, in Waterville, Maine


Over the course of and in between the two face-to-face days we will focus on teaching the habits, measuring and providing feedback, and integrating habits of mind into instructional design. Participants will collaborate and share artifacts as well as access the MCCL Habits of Mind Learning Progressions and e-library of resources collected from and by MCCL teachers/learning facilitators. This training will accommodate the needs of each participant. Those with experience at teaching habits of mind will have opportunities to share resources and problem solve what is working and what is not. Those who are just getting started will have opportunities to engage with the resources and learn from others who have taken different approaches. Outcomes: Participants will: •acquire an understanding of the habits of mind as one of the systems of learning. •acquire an understanding of habits of mind instruction and how it integrates with the teaching of content knowledge and critical thinking. •acquire an understanding of MCCL’s selection of habits of mind & the MCCL Habits of Mind Learning Progressions. •understand the research on teaching and providing learners feedback as they develop these habits. •gain access to resources & artifacts that support the implementation of habits of mind in all classrooms. •understand how habits of mind impact instructional design. •gain access to resources & artifacts that support the implementation of habits of mind in all classrooms. •share common experiences of their implementation efforts thus far. Communicating with all stakeholders is essential to successfully transforming a school/district. We know we have tons of research to support the changes we are trying to make however, many of our stakeholders do not understand the reasons "WHY" these changes are essential to transform our learning systems. This Communication Think Tank will leverage the experiences and expertise of our participants to problem solve what a comprehensive communication system should look like, share what strategies they are using, and identify specific aspects/strategies we need to learn more about. Improving Communication (Fairfield)


Do you find yourself wondering “what should I say?” or asking “what did I say?” Do you ever feel tongue-tied talking with customers or concerned about their reaction? Are you worried about discussing problems with your partner? Is it hard to find the time to have productive meetings?

Effective communication is essential and cost effective for your farm operation. In this three-hour interactive workshop, “Improving Communication,” participants will address real farm situations to learn about communication styles, ways to have better conversations, and have a chance to practice new skills. Each participant will identify unique needs and create a plan to address them.
