Dancing Jaguar's Spirit Camp Teacher Training


Dancing Jaguar is hosting a Spirit Camp Teacher Training Program this winter in Winslow, Maine! Are you ready to make a difference in the lives of children by helping them connect to their authentic selves, learn how to trust their intuition, and honor their truth? We live in a modern society that values mind and intellect. Dancing Jaguar's Spirit Camp offers children tools using ancient practices and modern holistic techniques that value and nurture the heart and spirit. Be at the forefront of leaders teaching future generations how to be peaceful warriors! Upon completion of the Teacher Training program, you will be able to teach Dancing Jaguar's Spirit Camp curriculum at many venues, including schools, after-school programs, homeschool groups, community centers, and at yoga studios, spas, and wellness centers. The modules also provide a wealth of information for those interested in working individually with children as a coach or mentor. You will also be listed on the Dancing Jaguar's Spirit Camp website page as a certified teacher. Dates and Locations Certification is over the course of 3 weekends and 36 hours of training in each location. You must attend each weekend to get certified. Teaching Habits of Mind: January 24, 2019 with a 2nd day TBD by participants, in Waterville, Maine


Over the course of and in between the two face-to-face days we will focus on teaching the habits, measuring and providing feedback, and integrating habits of mind into instructional design. Participants will collaborate and share artifacts as well as access the MCCL Habits of Mind Learning Progressions and e-library of resources collected from and by MCCL teachers/learning facilitators. This training will accommodate the needs of each participant. Those with experience at teaching habits of mind will have opportunities to share resources and problem solve what is working and what is not. Those who are just getting started will have opportunities to engage with the resources and learn from others who have taken different approaches. Outcomes: Participants will: •acquire an understanding of the habits of mind as one of the systems of learning. •acquire an understanding of habits of mind instruction and how it integrates with the teaching of content knowledge and critical thinking. •acquire an understanding of MCCL’s selection of habits of mind & the MCCL Habits of Mind Learning Progressions. •understand the research on teaching and providing learners feedback as they develop these habits. •gain access to resources & artifacts that support the implementation of habits of mind in all classrooms. •understand how habits of mind impact instructional design. •gain access to resources & artifacts that support the implementation of habits of mind in all classrooms. •share common experiences of their implementation efforts thus far. Telling Your Truth: The Personal Essay and Memoir  Tuesday, January 29, 2019, 4p-6pSnow Date: Wednesday, January 30  Professor Michael Burke of Colby College will lead a two-hour workshop on the nature, features, and tools of the Personal Essay and Memoir. The session will begin with a brief description of the features and tools of both the personal essay and memoir writing. Following this introduction, participants will respond to writing prompts designed to generate the beginnings of an essay or memoir, and will be invited to share the results with others in the workshop.  This session is appropriate for anyone 18 and older. Participants should bring something to write on and with: laptop, ipad, pad of paper, etc.  Free and open to the public. Seating is limited to 20 participants; registration is required. Register at:  Michael Burke has taught at Colby College since 1987, where he is Professor of English and Creative Writing, and Director of their Creative Writing Program. His nonfiction has appeared in the Boston Globe, The New York Times, Down East, Yankee, Islands, Outside, and other national and international publications, and he is the author of an adventure/memoir, The Same River Twice (University of Arizona Press). His play, The Town Meets, won the Maine Literary Arts Award in 2018. He has a BA in Philosophy from the University of California, Berkeley and an MFA from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst in Creative Writing. He lives in Wilton with his wife, the fiction writer Patricia O’Donnell.

Teen Game Night


Stop by the Waterville Public Library on Mondays at 4pm for Teen Game Night! Featuring video games, board games, and sometimes D&D, it's always a new adventure! The library has a collection of board games to choose from, which includes Settlers of Catan, Exploding Kittens, Munchkin, and many more! There are also games available to play on the library's Wii U, Wii and PS3. Attendees are welcome to bring along any age-appropriate games they'd like to share. Bring yourself, bring your friends, and discover new games! Dungeons and Dragons (5th edition) is played during game night on the 1st and 3rd Monday every month! Pre-made characters will be available for newcomers. The adventure party will be limited to the first six attendees to arrive, but others are welcome to observe! Attendees are encouraged to bring their own dice if possible, but some extras will be provided. The library's collection of board games and video games will also be available.
