Joan Jett and the Blackhearts


Joan Jett is an originator, an innovator, and a visionary. As the leader of the hard- rocking Blackhearts, with whom she has become a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee, she's had eight platinum and gold albums and nine Top 40 singles, including the classics "Bad Reputation," "I Love Rock 'N' Roll," "I Hate Myself For Loving You," and "Crimson and Clover." Her independent record label, Blackheart Records, was founded in 1980 after she was rejected by no less than 23 labels. Blackheart is one of the longest running indie labels and continues to give voice to new bands. Jett has acted in movies and television, including 1987's Light Of Day, and in a Tony-nominated Broadway musical, The Rocky Horror Show. She has appeared on such acclaimed television shows as Oprah (the last season) and Law and Order.

The iconic talent brings down the house at UCPAC to kick off Martin Luther King Jr. Day weekend! JENNIFER HOLLIDAY catapulted to stardom in the smash Broadway musical Dreamgirls with her show-stopping performance as Effie "Melody" White. The role garnered her a Tony Award for Best Actress in A Musical. She was discovered at age 17 while singing in her church choir in Houston, Texas by dancer Jamie Patterson. Jamie persuaded her to move to New York City, where she made her Broadway debut in Vinnette Carroll's Your Arms Too Short To Box With God as a featured soloist. Beyond Broadway, Ms. Holliday appeared as Lisa Knowles on the Fox TV dramedy Ally McBeal. She has also enjoyed a successful recording career, winning Grammy® Awards for her mesmerizing performances of "And I Am Telling You, I'm Not Going”(1982) and Duke Ellington’s “Come Sunday” (1985). Ms. Holliday has also received rave reviews for her first album in two decades, The Song Is You (2014).
