Beginners Embroidery Workshop


Beginner’s Embroidery Workshop Sunday 20th January | 10.00am to 1.00pm Join us for a relaxing morning learning the basics of embroidery – perfect for absolute beginners. Our expert tutor Michaela will guide you through step by step teaching traditional stitches and techniques. This great introductory workshop will open your eyes to the possibilities and uses of embroidery to personalise and showcase your newly creative skill. Spend a morning relaxing and enjoy trying something new. The embroidery is a deceptively simple floral design, based loosely on a Scabious. You will learn how to do back stitch, stem stitch, French knots and some free-form stitching. All materials, tools and refreshments are included and by the end of your session you will have mastered the basics, been inspired and have completed your first embroidered picture, similar to the image above. Perfect for beginners or people with experience who would like to spend time with like-minded people.   Outline of morning 10.00 am     Welcome with refreshments and meet your tutor Michaela. A Fashion Design Graduate, Michaela now favours hand stitching over machine to make embroidered jewellery, hand-bound books and embroidered sketches, which she sells online and in shops. An excellent teacher of the craft, Michaela has run and taught workshops for 10 years along with weekly stitch clubs in Lincoln.

Fostering Information Evening - Grantham


Come and find out about becoming a foster carer at our information evening.  The event will cover: What is fostering / different types of foster care The process to become a foster carer Talks from some of our experienced foster carers The support and rewards to foster carers from Lincolnshire Fostering Service Whilst there are many different types of foster care you can do, in Lincolnshire there is an urgent need of foster carers to look after: Teenagers Children who need to be cared for long-term (also known as Permanent Fostering, which is usually until independence) Brothers and sisters who need to be kept together Children with additional needs Foster carers talking at the event will be sharing their experiences of caring for one or more of these groups of children. Please note that this event is not suitable for children aged under 18. To allow for registration please arrive 10 minutes early so the event can start on time.

Collections Photography Skills Workshop


This practical workshop is designed to build your confidence and skills in photographing the objects within your collections. We will cover the following subject areas:  Why we need to photograph objects and what we need to capture Technical knowledge – the key camera settings and other equipment including the use of smartphones Setting up a photography area and lighting an object for best results The afternoon session will mainly be a practical session enabling you to try the settings and techniques with guidance. You will work in pairs for this part of the session. The session is suitable for any type of digital camera and any level of experience. The small group will enable individual help when required. The day will be run by freelance commercial photographer Sarah Homles who has worked with the heritage sector for over 8 years both delivering training and photoshoots for a wide range of organisations including Canterbury Cathedral, The Fry Art Gallery and St Albans Museums.  Due to the limited number of spaces on this event we are only able to accept one delegate per a museum initially. The workshops will enable you to develop skills to use a guiding style to engage clients, clarify their strengths and aspirations, evoke their own motivations for change and promote autonomy in decision making.  HVR Consultancy Services offers a 2-day training course in Motivational Interviewing This training will be of interest to people in diverse settings and in many different roles. Anyone who has conversations about change with others, for example, lifestyle choices, addictions, risk. Also great for managers! Delegates will explore Motivational Interviewing theory and develop core skills in using Motivational Interviewing in practice through a variety of activities, including discussions, role play, individual and small group exercises with a knowledgeable and experienced trainer. Previous delegates have rated the course as “excellent” “informative while being entertaining!” and described the trainer as “inspirational”.
