Responsive Communication: sensory processing, communication and autism

Autistic people often experience sensory processing difficulties which can cause distress as well as severe physical pain. They may also find it dificult to use speech to communicate. As a result of their communication and sensory difficulties, many autistic people experience distress and isolation in their daily lives which, in turn, can lead to distress behaviours (also known as “challenging behaviour”). These distress behaviours are often difficult for parents, carers and professionals to cope with or know how to respond to positively. Responsive Communication is a combination of sensory based approches and Intensive Interaction (using body language to communicate). It can reduce the autistic person’s experience of sensory pain, distress and isolation and increase their experience of wellbeing. Responsive Communication is really good at building emotional engagement between the autistic person and those around them. This training day will present the principles of Responsive Communication and illustrate them by means of film clips and a variety of interactive activities. You will be given the opportunity to explore your own sensory profile and so to gain an insight into the sensory experience of the autistic person you care for.  The training  will be delivered by Kate Richardson who is a learning disabilities speech and language therapist as well as a director of Autism Wellbeing CIC. Managing risk and resilience: SBW Networking meeting (The Red House, Merthyr Tydfil) Rheoli risg a gwydnwch: cyfarfod rhwydweithio Busnes Cymdeithasol Cymru

Do you dare to dive in? Risk is everywhere. But, how you manage it could mean the difference between your business sinking and swimming. In Social Business Wales we’ve been discussing how developing resilience and taking risks is essential to keeping your head above water. Whether it’s developing new products, buying new equipment or, even, acquiring a new business, a measured approach to risk is essential. Without a certain amount of risk it’s impossible to swim forward, and nobody really likes treading water do they? Why not dive into our next series of networking events in Merthyr, Swansea and Caernarfon this November? We will be joined by WCVA’s Social Business Growth Fund team who will update us on the recent extension to the fund and tell us about new funds aimed at supporting social businesses to take on community assets. We will also be joined by a range of speakers talking about their approaches to business resilience and managing risk. Speaker: Matthew Cole and David Davies, Gofal and Gofal Enterprises Ltd A fyddech chi’n mentro plymio i mewn? Mae risg ym mhobman. Ond gallai’r ffordd rydych chi’n ei reoli olygu’r gwahaniaeth rhwng eich busnes yn llwyddo neu fethu. Ym Musnes Cymdeithasol Cymru, rydym ni wedi bod yn trafod sut mae datblygu gwydnwch a chymryd risgiau yn hanfodol i gadw eich pen uwch y dŵr. P’un ai a ydych chi’n datblygu cynnyrch newydd, yn prynu offer newydd neu’n caffael busnes newydd hyd yn oed, mae ymagwedd bwyllog at risg yn hanfodol. Heb ychydig o risg, nid yw’n bosibl symud ymlaen, a does neb yn hoffi troedio dŵr. Beth am blymio i mewn i’n cyfres nesaf o ddigwyddiadau rhwydweithio ym Merthyr, Abertawe a Chaernarfon fis Tachwedd? Bydd tîm Cronfa Twf Busnesau Cymdeithasol Cyngor Gweithredu Gwirfoddol Cymru yn ymuno â ni, a byddant yn rhoi’r wybodaeth ddiweddaraf am yr estyniad diweddar i’r gronfa, ac yn dweud wrthym am gyllid newydd sydd â’r nod o gynorthwyo busnesau cymdeithasol i fod yn gyfrifol am asedau cymunedol. Bydd amrywiaeth o siaradwyr yn ymuno â ni hefyd, a fydd yn siarad am eu hymagweddau at wydnwch busnes a rheoli risg. Matthew Cole a David Davies, Gofal a Gofal Enterprises Ltd
