The Dymock Poets Tour, Brecon Beacons

Between 1911 and 1914 a small literary group were drawn to the small Gloucestershire village of Dymock, some of them making it their home. They came to be known as the “Dymock Poets” and comprised Lascelles Abercrombie, Rupert Brooke, John Drinkwater, Robert Frost, Wilfred Gibson, Edward Thomas and Eleanor Farjeon.Their visitors included W H Davies , Ivor Gurney and Edward Marsh and the work they produced during this time provided the basis for a key period of British and American poetry. Their idyllic life together was cut short by the advent of the First World War during which both Rupert Brooke and and Edward Thomas died, leading to the break -up of the community. Included in the tour 2 nights Bed and Breakfast en -suite accommodation at the historic Castle Hotel in Brecon, the oldest hotel in Wales. Free wifi and parking. Full tour programme as above. Services of a local and knowledgeable guide. Tour transport on a comfortable mini bus. Guided tour on Day 3 Day One Your room will be available anytime from 3pm onwards. Once you are settled in we will all meet for afternoon tea (provided),  where you can get to know us and the other guests and find out more about the tour. The evening is then free for you to do whatever you wish. We will be at hand to give you suggestions and directions if required. Day Two Depart at 10am for our trip to Dymock, eponymous home of the Dymock Poets. Our one and a half hour journey will take us through beautiful countryside with many interesting sights along the way. On arrival in Dymock we will point out some of the houses in which the poets lived before visiting the inspiring and informative exhibition about the poets in the attractive Grade 1 listed St Mary’s Church. After a break for lunch (non inclusive) at the Beauchamp Arms, one of the few parish owned pubs in the country we will take a short drive to May Hill. Described in John Masefield’s poem, “The Everlasting Mercy” and a favourite walking place of Robert Frost and Edward Thomas , it is also where Thomas began writing his powerful poem “Words”. A short, gentle walk takes you to the summit of this timeless beauty spot with its panoramic views over the Severn, the Cotswolds ,the Welsh mountains and the Malverns. We meet at The Hours Café, a charming award winning café/bookshop for a meal and an evening of poetry related to the Dymock Poets. Day Three After a leisurely breakfast guests are welcome to either: take a guided tour of Brecon - 11am start (included in price) or depart at their own convenience. The Details This tour involves some walking up a relatively steep hill, of approximately 1 mile. Please bring a warm layer, a waterproof coat and suitable footwear for hill walking. If for any reason changes have to be made to the programme e.g due to weather conditions, we will always ensure a suitable alternative is provided and will do all we can to make your tour , rewarding, relaxing and memorable. Hill Fit & Land Navigation for Beginners - Black Mountains - April 27th & 28th

This course can be booked as individual events as stand alone days or as a bundle ticket for the whole weekend. Please select the relevant ticket for the day or days you wish to participate in upon booking. Day One Get training guidance and pratical advice to improve your hill fitness and performance on this hill fit day.  This day offers an introduction to hill fitness and tabbing.  Train with our experienced DS Team to enable you to learn how to push yourself and up your game ahead of one of our events or in order to generally improve your hill fitness. You will complete a selected route as a group and be given vital information with regards to equipment selection and maintenence, foot care and general guidance to improve your training through knowledge and experience provided by former UK Special Forces. The army call this 'Tabbing' where as the Royal Marines call it Yomping. The word TAB actually comes from the phrase 'Tactical Advance to Battle' describing the method in which soldiers would travel on foot into battle with all their equipment to eat, sleep and fight. Tabbing is very unique as it is a combination of muscle and cardiovascular endurance, burning far more calories than running alone and stimulating more muscle tone than a typical gym session. It also uses the largest muscles in the body, giving a higher calorific output.  The day will include practical tips for when you're out on the hills in order to enhance your fitness and endurance.  It will also deliver a series of essential 'Know How' skills, hints and tips related to hill fitness.  This day is perfect for those who are participating in our events or wanting to increase their general fitness and know how or simply want to try something new and gain tuition from the best in the business. Day Two A practical day of hill navigation training delivered by our experienced former Special Forces DS Team.  This informative day will allow you to learn crucial map reading and navigation skills.  Its practical nature will also give you the oportunity to practise your navigational competence to enable you to feel confident about planning and following a route on the hills.  For those who are taking part in our Point to Point event as part of Loadstone Aptitude or as a standalone event, we would recommend this day as a way of assessing your ability and identify areas to improve upon ahead of the day. This will also satisfy the pre-requisite for this and other navigation-led events. The day is aimed at those with entry and / or intermediate levels of map reading.  ***FREE TICKET FOR POINT TO POINT REGISTRANTS***
