Democracy Matters Conversation

The Scottish Government has launched the next phase of its Local Governance Review, inviting people across Scotland to join a conversation called ‘Democracy Matters’ which Moray Council are actively promoting. What is “Democracy Matters”? -. It is about community decision-making to help make public services more locally focused. The campaign asks five key questions about how decisions should be made at a more local level. It asks whether communities, of place or identity, should have more control of decisions and what those might be. It also asks how this should look and what new or existing decision-making processes could be used. The Local Governance Review was launched earlier in the year and aims to find out what changes are needed to encourage a more local, participatory and inclusive democracy Scotland. A short animation summarises the review and the five key questions being asked.

The Arc Sessions: ADAM SUTHERLAND BAND

Errogie native Adam Sutherland, Scots Trad Music Awards ‘Composer of the Year’ 2017 is one of Scotland’s most singularly gifted fiddlers, in a very crowded field.  His much awaited second album ‘Some Other Land’ will be launched in February 2018 at Celtic Connections, the UK’s premier celebration of Celtic music. All tunes are self-penned and in this case mostly gleaned from dreams.  Waking in the middle of the night with a new tune is a recent phenomenon for the musician, and has happened so regularly that it has become the unintentional but undeniable theme of this new release, with the title referencing how Adam likes to describe the place from where his tunes originate.   Widely recognised for his high energy, captivating performances with such bands as high powered festival favourites the Treacherous Orchestra, Session A9, Peatbog Faeries and Croft No. Five, Adam has drawn together a genre-spanning quintet to showcase his all-new original compositions. Solidly under-pinned by John Paul Speirs and Iain Copeland on bass and drums, Adam's melodies are aided in texture and shape by John Somerville's accordion, Marc Clement on guitar and Hamish Napier on keys. Never afraid to wear his influences on his sleeve, Sutherland's unique arrangements range from frenetic Scottish reels, through early 20th century jazz shapes to subtly Balkan diversions. This six-piece combine to deliver musicality that ranges from heart-warming to heart-rending, spine-tingling to spellbinding. Energy, inventiveness and craft combine to offer sonic joy.
