a joy-inducing force of entertainment. The colorful explosion of brassy funk, rock, and jazz is all about the groove. This larger-than-life group of musicians and acrobats tours the country year-round, bringing a spirit of celebration wherever they go. MarchFourth is, in a word, FUN! Fifteen MarchFourth musicians traveled from Portland, Oregon to New Orleans, Louisiana to record their fourth studio album, MAGIC NUMBER, self-released in September 2016. With Producer Ben Ellman (Galactic) and Engineer/Producer Mikael Count Eldridge (DJ Shadow, Tycho, Trombone Shorty) at the helm, the album is full of the captivating grooves and brassy swagger youd expect from MarchFourth, plus a healthy dose of New Orleans magic, with guest appearance by Trombone Shorty, Stanton Moore (drums), and Matt Perrine (sousaphone). The album was fan-funded through Kickstarter.Perfectly merging the artistic spirit of Portland with the musical spectacle of New Orleans, MarchFourth put on one of the most complete shows of any band on any stage. From rocking big band jam tunes, choreography and feats of strength that need to be seen to be believed, MarchFourth entertains on every level every second they are on the stageor off! ~Live for Live MusicFrom the first note to the last, the sound was pumping and the fun never stopped Its worth noting that there are serious musicians behind all the fun. Tony Furtado

Very few musicians of any stripe so personify a musical genre as completely as Tony Furtado embodies Americana roots music. Tony is an evocative and soulful singer, a wide-ranging songwriter and a virtuoso multi-instrumentalist adept on banjo, cello-banjo, slide guitar and baritone ukulele who mixes and matches sounds and styles with the flair of a master chef (hes also an accomplished sculptor, but thats another story). All of the music of America is in Tonys music. Relix hit the nail on the head when writing of Tony: True talent doesnt need categories.A native of Pleasanton, California, who now makes his home in Portland, Oregon, Tony Furtado took up the banjo at age 12, inspired by the Beverly Hillbillies TV show and a sixth grade music report. He first attracted national attention in 1987, when he won the National Bluegrass Banjo Championship in Winfield, Kansas. Not long after that, Tony opted for the life of a full-time professional musician, joining Laurie Lewis & Grant Street. A second victory at Winfield, in 1991, bookended his years with Grant Street. In 1990, Tony signed a recording deal with Rounder Records, one of the countrys preeminent independent record companies. Beginning with Swamped in 1990, he recorded six critically acclaimed albums for the label, collaborating with such master musicians as Alison Krauss, Jerry Douglas, Tim OBrien, Stuart Duncan, Kelly Joe Phelps and Mike Marshall. During this period, Tony also performed and recorded with the band Sugarbeat and the Rounder Banjo Extravaganza with Tony Trischka and Tom Adams.Beginning in the late 1990sinfluenced by such musical heroes as Ry Cooder, David Lindley and Taj MahalTony added slide guitar, singing and songwriting to his musical toolbox and began leading his own band. He is a tireless road musician who performs in a dizzying variety of formats: solo, in a duo or trio or with his full five-person band. He especially values the opportunities he has had to tour with such legendary musicians as Gregg Allman and with such esteemed slide guitarists as David Lindley, Derek Trucks and Sonny Landreth.Tony has performed throughout the world at top venues and appeared at such prestigious music festivals as the Telluride Bluegrass Festival, High Sierra Music Festival, Jazz Aspen, Kerrville Folk Festival, Strawberry Music Festival, Winnipeg Folk Festival, Sisters Folk Festival, San Jose Jazz Festival and countless others. I love playing live, he says. All my energy is focused on the love of playing music and rolling with the moment. Its a give and take from the audience to the stage, and back. And the music that is created is something that otherwise might not occur without that flow.

August Burns Red

with Fit For A King, Miss May I, Crystal Lake
The most rewarding challenges come from within. By personally aiming beyond your perceived potential, you can truly grow. Thats been the case every time August Burns Red record an album, and its quietly turned the Pennsylvania quintetJohn JB Brubaker [lead guitar], Brent Rambler [rhythm guitar], Matt Greiner [drums], Jake Luhrs [lead vocals], and Dustin Davidson [bass]into a GRAMMY Award-nominated heavy music torchbearer. Their journey began back in 2003 with marathon jam sessions on a farm belonging to Greiners family in the egg refrigerator. Embracing a diehard Rust Belt work ethic, they tirelessly pushed towards the top of heavy music with a series of critically acclaimed albums and countless gigs. A hard-earned high watermark, 2015s Found In Far Away Placesmarked their second consecutive Top10 debut on the BillboardTop 200. The single Identity notched a GRAMMY Award nod in the category of Best Metal Performance. A streaming juggernaut, both Identity and Ghosts [feat. Jeremy McKinnon] crossed the 3-million mark on Spotify. When it came time to record their eighth full-length Phantom Anthem[Fearless Records] with longtime producers Carson Slovak and Grant McFarland, the game didnt change. The musicians put their heads down and rallied around the same shared goal. The goal has always been to just write the best songs that we can write and put out the best album possible, exclaims JB. You want to keep raising the bar on yourself. Its the start of something new.It shows... Uncorking a barrage of infectious intensity, the boys augmented and amplified the touchstones of their signature style on Phantom Anthem. The musical equivalent of a clenched fist haymaker, the grooves hit harder, the hooks blaze brighter, and the instrumentation ignites even more intricacy. Its the most technical thing weve ever done, adds JB. Theres some pretty ridiculous shred stuff going on, which is awesome. Things just came out more heavy and tight. After two months, they emerged with the 11 tracks comprising Phantom Anthem. A subtle string pluck announces the arrival of the first single Invisible Enemy. In a blink, polyrhythmic pummeling and entrancing fret fireworks spiral headfirst towards an onslaught of screams, chugging bridge, searing solo, and arena-size chant, Pain is surrounding, surrounding us.The follow-up single The Frost whisks from icy clean strumming and tambourine into a blizzard of blistering screams and metallic majesty. Spearheaded by the thrash waltz of King of Sorrow, unpredictability drives the overall flow. Coordinates climaxes on a hauntingly gorgeous chorus as Lifeline and Carbon Copyboth penned by Davidsonup the visceral and vibrant virtuosity that August Burns Red remains synonymous with. The album title hints at the bands pronounced evolution.JB recalls, Phantom Anthemis a song or a sound that creates deep roots in the heart of a person, resonating through every bone in that persons body and naturally giving he or she purpose and value. Its often something silenta quiet song that isnt noticed and is often overlooked. Brent goes on, Many of the songs discuss being the one who grabs the reins, plants the seeds, makes them grow, and takes control. You may not see that thought or idea, but it brings value to the world.Ultimately, August Burns Red push themselves harder than ever on Phantom Anthem, destroy expectations, and reach a new level by simply being who they are.We never thought wed get here, echoes Brent. Were eight albums in. It seems like its bigger and better than ever. Its everything to us. That wont ever change. Rick Florino, July 2017
