Small Engineering Lathe - Introduction Course


This introduction to the small lathe course is run over two days with a maximum of five students. Whether you’ve never used a metal working lathe before or have not touched one since you were at school, our experienced tutor will have you confidently cutting metal in no time. What you will learn Aimed at the complete beginner, this course will take you through the setup and safe use of the lathe. Over the two days you will complete a project that incorporates a variety of techniques. From how to correctly plan a project and how to turn with precision to turning between centres and screw cutting. By the end of the two days you will have the confidence to safely use the lathe at home. What you will take home Component project Certificate of attendance ‘How to’ - Course details Additional information You will start your day with a welcome talk, including a hot drink, health and safety brief and a breakdown of the machines you will be using. No metal working experience is needed. Beginners Woodturning Course (2 Day)


Embark on your woodturning journey with our two day beginners woodturning course. Learn from your experienced tutor who will guide you through the tools, equipment and accessories you need to create delightful pieces from wood. What you will learn Encompassing the basics in woodturning, your two days will cover sharpening techniques, drilling on the lathe and parting off techniques. Furthermore you’ll discuss and learn finishing techniques to enable your designs to really stand out. Finishes include friction polishes, sealers, waxes and oils. With guidance from your tutor, you will gain hands-on experience throughout the course. Leigh Dovetail Jigs - Introduction Course


Our one day course provides an introduction to the original Leigh D4, D4R and the Leigh Super Jigs. This course is available to existing Leigh Jig owners and those considering the purchase of a Leigh Jig. Existing Leigh Jig owners will need to bring their own jig and routers with them. What you will learn Our one day Leigh jig course covers types of jig, safe routing principles and step by step setting up of your jig for through dovetails and half blind dovetails. A typical drawer/box construction is then undertaken using the two different jointing methods. We will be holding our next Ladies Networking event in Bridport on Friday 21 Sept. So join us for a morning of networking and your opportunity to meet lots of other local ladies running businesses in the Bridport area. Beginners Woodturning Course (5 Day)


Discover and learn all aspects of turning on our five day woodturning course. Aimed at students who have taken part in the two day course, each aspect of turning will be taught in greater detail. The extended length of the course gives you the opportunity to produce more challenging projects and time to learn a wealth of knowledge on the subject. What will you learn The five day course will introduce you to turning tools, equipment and accessories, including grinding equipment and tool sharpening. With guidance from your tutor you will practice techniques both between centres and faceplate. Through this you’ll learn how to master the art of pen turning, turning acrylics and polyester. Be taught bowl turning techniques and learn to spindle turn coves, beads and fillets and the use of jam chucks. As the course emphasis is on practical turning you'll have substantial hands-on experience in all basic woodturning techniques. Using your allocated lathe and tools you’ll produce test pieces and projects that may be kept for future reference.
