Civic Fabric: skills, sustainability & strong futures for Culture

Offering inspiration, ideas and opportunities for cross-sector exchange, Civic Fabric 2018 aims to provide a space where fresh thinking and new ideas can be shared beyond the constraints that sometimes hold cultural and community organisations back. Civic Fabric will explore how a diverse range of such organisations can build resilient futures together, seizing the opportunities presented in the nationwide shift to new governance models and increased community focus across our sectors. These changes offer exciting opportunities in common: new kinds of organisation; partnerships; community participation; and income generation for example; but they also require investment in the skills, knowledge and confidence of our people to make them thrive. This one-day conference will see national and local experts, and those on the front line of cultural delivery across a range of sectors coming together to collaborate and discuss the possibilities ahead. Keynote speakers will discuss these issues across a range of cultural and community organisations across the UK: Museums: Maria Bojanowska, Head of National Programmes, British Museum Churches: Wendy Coombey, Community Partnership & Development, Diocese of Hereford Community Asset Transfer: Meena Bharadwa, Development Manager, Locality A panel of local experts, representatives from a similar range of sectors, will ground these matters in regional - and especially rural - context in Herefordshire. Free practical workshops will offer guidance on a range of topics, covering skills and knowledge in areas such as: understanding a range of governance models; diversifying revenue; measuring social impact; and volunteer management, for example. The Civic Fabric conference recognises the common changes we face, opportunities ahead and skills we need in order that cultural and community organisations may play their central role in fostering local pride and ambition, and in contributing to the social, economic and environmental development. Tickets are free and the conference is open to everyone. Civic Fabric: skills, sustainability and strong futures for Culture is the first in the Pride of Place conference series, organised and hosted by Herefordshire’s a Great Place, and generously supported by the Elmley Foundation.  The Heritage Lottery Fund and Arts Council England co-funded Herefordshire’s a Great Place is being delivered by Rural Media Charity on behalf of the Herefordshire Cultural Partnership. Malvern Raspberry Pi Jam (Family & Adult Edition)

This is an opportunity to come along with your own Raspberry Pi (or other electronic computer boards and hardware) to show people what you have done, or to attend and learn about the Pi hardware and software and perhaps get started on your own projects.  We have Raspberry Pis that you can use if you don't have your own. We're working informally on a project exploring the Internet of Things using a weather station as a platform. The aim is to collaboratively develop the software, try out different hardware devices, and make use of other services such as cloud-based datalogging, web services and remote desktops. If this all sounds too technical; don't worry! Our other aim is to progress at a sensible pace and make sure we all understand what is going on so that we learn new skills and can apply things to our own projects. The Family & Adult session is suitable for older students (such as sixth formers / apprentices), accompanied younger students, and adults. If you have children attending the earlier Student Edition of the Malvern Raspberry Pi Jam, then this is your chance to try and get ahead of them! After the session at about 9pm, people can head to either The Chase Inn or the Wyche Inn for a drink and chat. The event is free to attend, but because space is limited, we ask you to please register in advance.  The initiative is organised and hosted by Innovate Malvern CIC at the Wyche Innovation Centre, in collaboration with The Pi Shop:         With support from:           The Chartered Institute for IT, local branch    The IoP West Mids branch         The IET H&W network

Award for Personal Licence Holders Shropshire

HABC Level 2 Award for Personal Licence Holders Our speaker, Charles Hennell Cole, has many years of experience of delivering training and managing licensed retail operations. He first delivered the personal licence holder's qualification in 2006. He has previously worked as a pub, hotel and restaurant manager.  You will be sent the Highfield workbook the week before the course, which you will find beneficial to complete in your own time. You then come to see us for the 1-day session and take the multiple-choice official APLH exam. If you are currently working in licensed premises, it will help your learning if you read the premises licence - particularly the operating schedule - before you attend the course. The course fee includes all course materials along with the Awarding Body learner registration and examination fee. Lunch is included (let us know about special requirements). The qualification is assessed through a one-hour, 40-question multiple-choice examination. Candidates must score at least 28/40 in order to pass. Please let us know in advance if you have any special assessment requirements, for instance if you are dyslexic or visually impaired, and require us to make any reasonable adjustments to the examination. Successful candidates will receive their official Level 2 Award for Personal Licence Holders certificate normally within 2 weeks of sitting the exam. You will then be able to apply for your Personal Licence subject to certain criteria. Please bring with you original photographic proof of identification to show the exam invigilator - a photo driving licence or passport is ideal. You will not be able to sit the exam without it. If you are not able to take the exam for this reason, you will not be entitled to a refund, although we will assist you with sitting the exam on an alternative date. Let us know in advance if you do not have a passport or driving licence, and we will look at other options to verify your identity. This HABC accredited qualification is for those aged 18 years+ working in or preparing to work in any industry that involves the retail sale of alcohol. It is a requirement for anyone who wishes to hold a personal licence. This qualification covers the main requirements of the Licensing Act 2003 and the legal responsibilities of a personal licence holder. Anyone wishing to authorise the sale of alcohol by retail on licensed premises must hold a personal licence. Subjects covered include purpose and period of validity of a personal licence, the application process and legal duties of a personal licence and licensing law. Cancellations: you may cancel up to 21 days before the booked exam date and receive a refund less a £30 admin fee. There is no VAT chargeable on this course, but there is VAT charged on the Eventbrite booking fee element. Highfield Awarding Body for Compliance (HABC) Approved Centre no. 13519.
