Introduction to Data Analysis with RStudio for UVic Libraries' DSC - January 21, 2019


Are you a UVic student or Staff member and want to learn more about statistical and data analysis using RStudio? Are you a graduate student wondering how you're going to analyze your research data? If so, then this hands-on workshop will give you an introduction to RStudio, which is a free and open-source tool for analyzing and visualizing your data. Once you’ve completed this session you’ll be able to: Entering and Saving Data/Files in R Installing packages, importing and exporting data Creating lists and tables (aka: matrices from vectors) Extracting data frame and matrix elements Manipulate matrix and descriptive statistics using the “summary” command Creating loops and introducing “For” statement Creating basic R plots using the “plot” command No programming skills are required for this workshop; just an interest and/or a desire to learn. Introduction to Sketchnoting: Doodle Your Way to Better Grades for UVic Libraries' DSC - January 23, 2019


Are you a UVic student or Staff member and want to learn more about how doodling or Sketchnoting can help you get better grades? Are you a UVic student, faculty, or staff member and want to learn more about video editing? If so, then this hands-on workshop will give you an introduction to video editing using iMovie. Once you've completed this session you'll create and edit a video in iMovie including: Create a New Project in iMovie. Import video into iMovie. Trim & Split video clips. Insert transitions between clips. Create Title and Credits. Mute or adjust audio volume in video clips. Video Export and publishing options. Import audio. Make a slow-motion video clip. Crop a video clip. How to use a green screen video. Are you a UVic student or staff member and are interested in design and data visualization? Are you looking to elevate your visual reports and presentations to the next level? If so, you should sign up for our hands-on workshop to learn about how you can incorporate Tableau’s data visualization software into your research and projects. This workshop is designed to familiarize participants with Tableau software and provide an introduction to creating visualizations and dashboards. By the end of the workshop, participants will be comfortable importing data into Tableau and navigating the interface, and be able to develop different types of charts and visualizations. In order to devote almost all of our face-to-face workshop time to hands-on exercises, please complete the following pre-class exercises (~ 15 minutes) and then complete the quiz at the end.
