Winter Solstice Yoga Nidra Day Retreat

Solstice: when the sun ‘stands still’, a quiet point. At this turning point in the year, a day of yoga, yoga nidra, yummy vegan food, circle, tuning into the changing energies within and without. Enjoy ashram-style living for the day at rural retreat place Viveka Gardens Yoga Farm. With day and night length almost perfectly poised, the theme for the day is dropping into the stillpoint.  Through yoga asanas, yoga nidra (guided lying down, meditation), time in nature, we’ll go to a deep level of relaxation and come home to our true and constant selves. Viveka Gardens Yoga Farm: a retreat place where community and visitors can ground themselves through yoga practices and food growing, and so connect with their true self to embody peace and unity. This day will inspire your yoga journey and relax your being. Take time out to get perspective, nurture and nourish yourself. Enjoy the peace of rural mid-Devon and soak in the prana of nature. A chance to unwind and revive. Here’s feedback for Yoga Nidra workshops to encourage you to join us: A deeply penetrating experience into relaxation and mind consciousness. An experience I will want to repeat many times. LG I was feeling very disconnected from myself. Today I feel so much more grounded and reconnected with the universe. I love that we all felt like a little family and the energy built up was truly empowering. Cannot say thank you enough. DH A wonderful practice, and very well-timed for me. It’s had a significantly profound effect on me at a point in my life where I’m leaving my career and moving forward into new things. Angela, Tavistock Just what I needed to rebirth, go inward and rest. The body and mind just wanted to feel contentment, without attaching anything to outcome. I got just this. PW-P Yesterday was a truly wonderful experience. I feel an amazing sense of clarity today. I also slept for 13 hours solidly… Thank you so much. LC

Beaver Ecology and Conservation

A 1 day course giving participants the skills to carry out beaver surveys and gain a better understanding of their behaviour, ecology and conservation. The course will also cover reintroductions, and the impact that beavers can have on biodiversity. Tutor: Derek Gow About the Tutor: Derek Gow is the leading authority on beavers in the UK, and the architect behind much of the work to re-introduce them to the wild. Eurasian beavers were once widespread in England but were hunted to extinction by the 16th century for their fur, meat and scent glands. However, they are now slowly returning to the UK, with reintroductions in Scotland and the establishment of a small population in Devon (from an escape or possibly an unsanctioned release). As such, it is extremely important to understand the ecology of this species and in particular the impact that reintroductions have on other biodiversity.   The course will cover the following topics: • Beaver biology, ecology and field signs • The history of beavers in Britain • Legal status of beavers • Beaver reintroductions and conservation case studies • The impact of beavers on biodiversity This workshop will be suitable for beginners and improvers alike and may include the opportunity to observe a captive beaver.  What to bring Lunch, water and snacks  Notebook  Wellies Directions Google map here There is a range of local accommodation nearby, or camping is available on the site for a small fee, please contact us for more details. Water Voles - Ecology and Survey

A 1 day course giving participants the skills to carry out water vole surveys and gain a better understanding of their behaviour, ecology and conservation. Tutor: Derek Gow About the tutor: Derek is a specialist in water vole mitigation and conservation projects. He has over 25 years experience working with water voles, giving mitigation advice to developers and land owners and running a breeding program that has successfully reintroduced over 10,000 water voles across the UK. Co-author of the Water Vole Conservation Handbook and experienced trainer. The water vole has suffered a catastrophic decline over the last century, but they are still found widely occurring across the UK, sometimes in unexpected habitat. As such, it is hugely important to be able to recognise their signs and understand their ecological requirements. The course will cover the following topics: Water vole biology, ecology and field signs The history of water voles in Britain Legal status of water voles Factors in water vole decline Water vole conservation - habitat restoration and mink control Conservation case studies The workshop is being held at the headquarters of the UK water vole captive breeding centre, and will include an opportunity to handle and observe water voles. This workshop will be suitable for beginners and improvers alike.
