All Weather Tots - 2018

Outdoor play session at Highway Farm which is ten minutes from Redruth, Cornwall. Fridays, term time only 10am to 11.30. Suitable for children crawling through to starting school. This is a session where you and your child have lots of outside space to explore in all weathers. There's a creative 'starter' each week but no set 'craft' that you have to replicate. This is about free play and creativity, take the lead from your child :) The kettle will be on when you arrive, feel free to bring children's drinks and snacks.I'm Niki, my background is early years, children with special needs and Forest School, I also have four grown up children of my own. I have a DBS check, I am a Playworker, have a degree in Early Years Education and am an Advanced Forest School Leader and Trainer. I'm passionate about children playing out! Here are some photos of what we've been up to before  THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW Please bring extra layers and waterproofs, the farm has a micro-climate all of its own We run whatever the weather - clue in the title! The only time this may change is if there is a Met Office Weather Warning. In which case please check your email, or Facebook messages before you leave. I will make a decision at least an hour before the session. No need to print your tickets out I have a list We have a fire if it is cold and some shelter, but no indoor space. I will make you a cuppa and we have almond milk not dairy. We have a compost loo Please wait in the car park and I will come down and pick you up at ten Mud is involved - please wear old clothes! Extra adults - sometimes it's nice to bring your partner, visiting granny, help - because may be you're really pregnant and can't chase afer that child - that's great and nine times out of ten is not a problem. Please let me know beforehand so that I bring enough cups. My priority is the children's play environment so if I had a week where everyone wanted to bring Great Auntie Ethel I may say no, this is because a hoard of adults standing in a group around small children playing is not a great play environment, much as I love Great Auntie Ethel ;) So please just check first. (We need a minimum of four families to run a session. We are called All Weather Tots but we do not run when safety is an issue such as gale force winds or heavy snow. Please check your email before leaving in case we cancel - this has only happened twice) Hope to meet you soon :) Quotes from parents 'Perfect, I've arranged my job around it' 'I like being outside, the great environment to explore, the balance of freedom and facilitation. And the beverage!' I am independant of Highway Farm but should you wish to find out more about nursery places, please email the team here - [email protected]

City CPD Club Cornwall Day 4

We have updated the 10 mandatory RIBA CPD Core Curriculum topics in response to the skills our members need to practice architecture, now and in the future. The ten Core topics will help you maintain competence, update your knowledge, acquire new skills, future-proof yourselves and your businesses and deliver socially purposeful architecture. The RIBA City CPD Club 2018, an innovative schedule of seminars and workshops covering the 10 mandatory topics, is designed to help you achieve your annual CPD requirements. Achieving high-quality green infrastructure Green infrastructure is recognised globally as an essential component of healthy, sustainable places. It provides many benefits to people, improving their health, wellbeing and ability to respond to the changing climate as well as enhancing the environment in which they live and work. This is acknowledged through the National Planning Policy Framework and many towns and cities now have a green infrastructure strategy. Green infrastructure consists of a multifunctional network of individual features that connect urban populations with the surrounding countryside. It includes street trees, parks, playing fields, woodlands, allotments, private gardens, wetlands, streams and other water bodies, green roofs and walls that are often linked to other components, including transport and drainage infrastructure. Despite the evidence base and policy support for green infrastructure, there is still considerable uncertainty about what this term means and how it can be best delivered in practice. This seminar will first examine what green infrastructure is and how it relates to other terms such as ecosystem services, nature-based solutions and natural capital that are increasingly being used by policy makers. The seminar will then consider the benefits of green infrastructure and how these relate to sustainability and health and wellbeing objectives in the built environment. Finally, the delivery of green infrastructure will be explored through a series of case studies. Speaker Danielle Sinnett, University of the West of England Core Curriculum Topics1. Architecture for social purpose2. Sustainable architecture Virtual Reality in architecture: an invaluable asset to help clients understand spaces Virtual Reality is already used in architecture and experts predict the role of this popular technology will increase in the future. After a short introduction covering the history and mainstream uses of VR, the speaker will describe how VR can be applied in architecture and used throughout the design process, helping clients and stakeholders better understand buildings from the very first client meeting, whilst speeding up the design process. The seminar will look into different types of VirtualReality and headsets (static views vs motion capture walkthroughs and different types of VR experiences) and the diversity of software available, such as Plug and Play or advanced use.It will also include a description of photogrammetry and its power when combined with VR. Based on personal experience, the speaker willdemonstrate how Virtual Reality is a real asset in architecture and how it can fundamentally change the client/architect relationship. The session will be a useful source of recommendations on: • How to make a start with a VR set up• What software and hardware are required to achieve successful results• The cost involved• The options of outsourcing or in-house production• How VR can help sell architectural services and increase fees. This seminar will include an interactive workshop when you will be able to experience the use of equipment provided by the speaker on the day.
