East Cork Choral Society Sings Handel's Messiah

East Cork Choral Society celebrates its 40th anniversary with a performance of perhaps the greatest and best-known work in the oratorio repertoire: Handel’s Messiah. We are honoured that they will dedicate the performance to the memory of Mrs. Myrtle Allen. The fifty singers will be accompanied by an orchestra of eight professional players and four talented young soloists. It is a wonderful opportunity to hear this Christmas favourite and its powerful ‘Hallelujah Chorus’ in the acoustically superb Ballymaloe Grainstore.

Antidotum Arachne

Palisander Recorder Quartet; Lydia Gosnell, Miriam Nerval, Caoimhe de Paor, Elspeth Robertson present a concert from their acclaimed album Antidotum Arachne: Beware the Spider! 16th and 17th century victims of venomous spider bites were offered no medicinal cure or relief. Instead the local musicians would work together to find the correct melody, known as a tarantella, which could cure them of their otherwise fatal symptoms. During this programme, Palisander explores a victim’s ordeal through the numerous symptoms and side effects of a tarantula’s bite.
