White Horse Guitar Club

The White Horse Guitar Club are an 11 piece band born in the music venue, Upstairs at The White Horse, who interpret songs of the Americana/Roots songbook in a truly impactful way – think Welsh voice choir singing the songs of the deep Southern States!  Formed in early 2012, the band evolved from an open club environment into a fully-fledged musical touring group of 11 friends over the past 5 years. 11 guys drawn from widely varying backgrounds, bound by a common love of playing guitar and singing music that is deeply rooted in the fine tradition of songwriting that flourishes in the Southern states of America, particularly in Kentucky & Tennessee where the Scots/Irish influence was and is strong. The group proudly interpret the songs of John Prine, Darrell Scott, Tim O’Brien, Buddy Miller, Townes Van Zandt, Willie Nelson and many more. The White Horse Guitar club has performed all over Ireland & beyond in the last 5 years, selling out tours in France, Germany, Italy & Holland, along with marquee nights on home soil like the sold out shows in Cork’s Everyman Palace Theatre in May ’17 & Cork's Opera House in January 2018. All good stories are shaped by the twists and turns of the road and the adventure of The White Horse Guitar Club is very much still being written. Keep your ears tuned and your heart open. Declan O'Rourke

“Compassion, romance, a sense of mortality and a sense of history run through the songs of Declan O’Rourke. The gravity of the deliberation in their melodies, their calmly sustained phrases, their fatalistic undertone — informs his songs, whether they’re about faithful love or reckoning with elemental forces. — His calling is a balladeer, proffering re-assurance in the face of inevitable sorrow.”– Jon Pareles, The New York Times “To me, Declan is not a songwriter within the ordinary definition of the word. He is a sorcerer of songs, with a Dickensian skill for finding the moment that details some aspect of our humanity.”– Brendan Graham, Hot Press Magazine (Mar 2012) Declan O’Rourke is a highly successful Irish artist, acclaimed by his peers, and having achieved many plaudits with his five albums released to date.  Declan’s soulful music, rooted in folk and trad, has attracted the praise of countless industry giants, including John Prine, and Paul Weller, among others. The Dubliner’s legend John Sheahan, declared recently that, “after 50 years I have decided it’s time to put a lid on the ‘The Dubliners,’ but I’m sure you’ll all agree that with Declan, and Damien (Dempsey), the future is in good hands.” O’Rourke’s songwriting style moves faultlessly between impressionism, and story telling, and can be at home in almost any form. A dynamic performer, he is at once as comfortable fronting a 50-piece orchestra, as playing solo with a guitar.  Songs of Declan’s have been covered by a growing list of established artists ranging from Christy Moore, to Eddi Reader, and Josh Groban. The Whileaways

Instinctive sibling-like harmonies, captivating lyrics and subtle accompaniment mark The Whileaways' sound, which has been described as 'perfected simplicity' (Irish Echo,USA).Since forming in 2012, this trio of songwriters has released three critically acclaimed albums. Their latest album 'From What We're Made', released in July 2018 is 'the sound of a fine band honing a distinctive sound.' (Lauren Murphy, Sunday Times) Noriana Kennedy, Noelie Mc Donnell and Nicola Joyce had each toured and recorded extensively with their separate projects before coming together as The Whileaways. Indeed, each had played gigs and festivals all over the world and over a dozen recordings to their collective credit when they began to admire each other's singing at gigs and sessions in their home-town of Galway. When a tour of Australia presented itself in 2012, they decided to test the water as a trio. They were hailed as ‘a knockout of the festival’ at the legendary Port Fairy Folk Festival in Australia, and the success of that tour prompted the release of their critically acclaimed debut album the following year. Acknowledging this coming together of independent forces, The Irish Times in it's four-star review at the time said : “This is an audacious debut ... from musicians whose experience pays ample dividends here”. Following the path carved out by their eponymous debut, the band's 2015 release 'Saltwater Kisses' gave them band their firm footing in the Irish roots music scene. These three singers are cut from the same cloth and weave a tapestry of harmonies and beautifully crafted original songs. Their sound is true and their delivery is undeniably captivating.
