Parent Safety & Breakaway Training

After numerous request from parents of young people displaying aggressive behaviour in the home, we are running this course on safety techniques and approaches. The course includes: * Theory around aggression and de-escalation strategies. * Advice and support around specific safety palnning. * Theory around legislation and legalities. * Pratical breakway techniques and low risk self-defence suitable for use when supporting vulnerable young people. This will cover wrist, clothing and hair grabs, punches, kicks, bites and scratches, strangles with time to cover  other options that may be proposed by the group.  It DOES NOT include techniques around restraint or safe holding - all practical techniques are designed to allow parents to remove themselves from aggressive situations safely, so as to be able to look to de-escalate in a non-physical way.  The course will be delivered by 3 trained tutors in Breakway techniques, all of whom have been certified by the General Services Association - a company employed to train NHS trust staff.  Sam Harris - BIS-net manager. Head of Behaviour Support Services at CEDA since 2013 and a trained tutor of Breakway techniques to staff since 2009.  Rachel Temple & Nick Cranston - Youth Services Co-ordinators at CEDA since 2013 and trained tutors since 2012. The techniques covered will be applicable to a wide range of ages up to and including young adults. Techniques more suited to those confrotned with aggression from physically larger young people will take palce towards the end of the course and be optional for those caring for younger children.
