Essex FabLab meet up - after hours - at the Basildon Library, Creatorspace.  Suitable for Makers, Crafters, Digital Nomads and Jedi - anybody who likes to do things with hard or soft Tech and their hands (or feet !) .  Bring a laptop if you can, loaded with SketchUp Make, Scratch , Fusion360 if you can and anything else you want to talk about.  Please Note - very important - make sure you print this ticket and bring it with you as you will need to show it to the security guard at the front door of the library as the door will be locked. Ring the bell on the left side of the main entrance to the library in St Martins Square.  If you are coming by car contact the organiser and we will send you directions on where to park for free. We will be looking at 3D printing, Raspberry Pi's, Arduino Robots , embroidery Sewing machines , anything else you want to talk about or make - But  let me know by email at least one day before so we can bring the right people and equipment.  This week we will focus on our new CODO DOJO group. It is the first step towards a professional qualification in post-16 teaching. Whether you are new to the teaching profession or an experienced facilitator wishing to get a formal qualification this course aims to develop your skills and knowledge. On completion of the course you will receive the Award in Education and Training at level three which makes you a qualified trainer   What does the course entail? The course covers the role of the teacher in facilitating learning and their legal responsibilities within a classroom setting. You will learn how to plan effective learning activities taking into consideration different learning styles, methods of delivery and assessment. The course will cover communication within the classroom and techniques to include and motivate the students you have.  Course Components The course entails four written assignments. The course will cover Session Plans, Schemes of Work, Functional Skills, Inclusive Teaching Techniques, Motivating Learners, Learning Resources, Constructive Feedback, Evaluating Learning and Giving Feedback, Delivery of a 15 minute micro-teach session, Evaluating Other’s Delivery, Methods of Assessment  When Can I complete the Course? The course can be completed between two weeks and 12 months. The actual period will depend on the time students committed to personal study and completing their assignment. The only practical requirement is the micro-teach which is just 30 minutes (Please see details below under ‘how delivery works’).  What will this qualification allow me to do? You can move from this qualification to take the level 4 Certificate in Education and Training (formerly known as CTLLS) or the Diploma at Level 5 (formerly known as DTLLS).  What is the difference between this and the old PTLLS course? The syllabus is exactly the same although there are three units instead of the four that were available on the old PTLLS course. The current Award is only available at level three. For a level four qualification you will need to sign up for the certificate which now requires a longer period of study. Wander through the Leeds Castle Christmas Market to an enchanted magical grotto. Father Christmas will be waiting to greet you. Those who have been good, which of course you all are, will receive a traditional gift to take home. Level 3 First Aid at Work - 3 day course


Level 3 First Aid at Work - 3 day course This course is useful if you require in-depth knowledge and practical skills to deal with first aid emergencies in the workplace. This course is mandatory to qualify as a First Aider and meets the standards required to help comply with Health and Safety (First Aid) regulations. What should I know first? Course consists of two units which learners must successfully complete to achieve the full qualification. Learners completing unit 1 only can be certificated with the FAA Award in Emergency First Aid. What will I learn? The learner will gain reporting knowledge and practical competence to confidently deal with workplace first aid situations, including allergic reactions, injuries and life-saving techniques. A range of subjects are covered including: Legalities, responsibilities and reporting Resuscitation and automated external defibrillator (AED) awareness Assessment of the situation Dealing with an unresponsive casualty Bandaging Shock (including Anaphylaxis) Fractures and spinal injuries Heart attacks Choking Control of bleeding Head injuries Eye injuries Poisoning Chest injuries Sprains and strains Burns Asthma Diabetes Epilepsy Stroke Course is suited to: The qualification is available to learners aged 14 or over, although a learner is unable to act as a First Aider in the workplace until they reach the age of 16.  Due to the practical nature of the first aid assessment there are physical demands and learners must be able to demonstrate their skills as in a real-life situation.  An example of this would be to demonstrate CPR on a mannequin at floor level. It is recommended that learners should hold a minimum of Level 1 in literacy or equivalent to undertake this qualification.  It may be possible to allocate a reasonable adjustment to a learner who has a disability,  medical condition or learning needs. Please  discuss any specific needs you may have with our team at the time of booking. Length of course: Course is conducted over three days.. Qualification: A three-year Level 3 Award in First Aid at Work (Level 6 in Scotland) will be issued to the learner, subject to successful assessment. This qualification meets the requirements of the Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981 and the Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 1982. This qualification is regulated in the UK and awarded by First Aid Awards. FAA is an awarding organisation regulated by Ofqual in England, and Qualifications Wales in Wales.  Summative practical assessment is ongoing by the instructor each day, along with a written assessment on each day. Bandsaw Training


The bandsaw is one of the most versatile machines in the workshop. Our bandsaw training course is designed to teach you all of the basics of the machine. Learn how to set the machine up and use it safely. Be guided by your tutor as they pass on their skills, knowledge and experience and show you how to get the best out of this very useful machine. What you will learn Our introductory course aims to teach you all the basics of the bandsaw. Start your day with an in-depth look into the machine and an explanation of each component. Then go on to discuss what each of the components does and its functions within the machine. With a step-by-step guide, you will learn how to set up the machine including the blade changing process. Furthermore, your tutor will discuss with you the different blades available and their uses. Throughout the course you will have practical use on the machine, including safe cutting when using the machine for different tasks. Additional information At the end of the course you will be able to take home a ‘Certificate of Attendance’ alongside the wealth of knowledge you have learnt on the bandsaw. You will start your day with a welcome talk, including a hot drink, health and safety brief and a breakdown and review of the equipment you will be using. The minimum age is 14 years old and anyone under 16 must be accompanied by an adult for the duration of the course and must not be left unattended during class hours. Connect and Share - Christmas Fun


Time to celebrate the festive season with one more business networking Connect and Share event of 2018. We will also be raising funds for Cash for Kids Mission for Christmas, to raise funds to help create a memorable Christmas for children round the Tayside region. I know Connect and Share events are normally free however, your £10.00 will get you watered and fed and a donation going to cash for kids.
