Outset Cornwall, Start Your Business Sessions 1-6 - Truro Evening


Our Business start up day sessions will help prepare you to start your own business and explore your ideas in a relaxed environment. Within our sessions, as well as exploring your idea we think about whether starting a business is right for you. We integrate business skills training, personal development and life management skills. These help to increase your confidence, knowledge and motivation on your business start-up journey. The following sessions will take place at the same venue every week.  The sessions will take place from 6-9pm, on the following dates. DAY 1: Wednesday 4 July 2018, 6-9pm Market Research Market Research: A Creative Thinking workshop where you can explore transferable skills, experience, strengths, passions and interests to help generate real business ideas, or build on an existing one. We will also discuss, identify and evaluate the barriers you face, both real and perceived, and explore the many ways of overcoming them.  Start on your Customer Profile and Market Research.  DAY 2:  Wednesday 11 July 2018, 6-9pm  Would You Give Yourself A Job? Would You Give Yourself A Job: This will help you consider what entrepreneurial qualities that you have and how they relate to your success in business. Review your initial Market Research in relation to your business idea, whilst linking with Time Management, Goal Setting and your Personal Survival Budget. DAY 3: Wednesday 18 July 2018, 6-9pm Introduction to Financial Planning  Introduction to Financial Planning: Taking the fear out of business finance! Is the thought of having to do a forecast for your business plan filling you with dread? We show you how to take the guesswork out of creating forecasts and profit & loss accounts with our simple to use tools coupled with practical knowledge that helps you get the most from documents that really can show you more than just your bank balance. DAY 4: Wednesday 25 July 2018, 6-9pm Costing / Pricing Costing & Pricing Your Product Or Service: How do you work out how much to charge for this? Whether you are selling a product or providing a service this session helps you to decide on a clear structure for your pricing policy using a standard ‘recipe’ to guide you. DAY 5: Wednesday 1 August 2018, 6-9pm Progress and Presentation In this workshop we take a closer look at the results of your market research and work together to interpret the results before exploring the importance of good presentation skills. Don’t like giving presentations? Let us help you in this workshop with some really practical advice by helping you to plan, prepare and practice your presentation, how to overcome your nerves and involve your audience. You will also receive guidance on completing your business plan. DAY 6: Wednesday 8 August 2018, 6-9pm Professionalism, Presentation and Image What makes you and your business ‘professional’? This workshop takes you through the importance of image, customer service and business communications when it comes to being ‘professional’. Finally, it will be your time to shine! Plaster Mould Making (August 2018)


This two day course covers the fundamental principles of plaster mould making. This is an exciting two-day intensive course focusing on plaster casting from waste moulds to plaster piece moulds, to eventually casting a sculpture and looking at finishing options. The course will cover the following: You will learn mould making and how to cast in different materials, enabling you to create a finished piece from your casts. As the group will be working on many different types of moulds this is a great opportunity to get an overview  of what is possible for mould making and casting in a variety of materials, making this course ideal for beginners or makers wishing to work in new ways. Day oneYou will make a quick clay sculpture and a plaster waste mould from this to cast in fast set concrete. Participants then have the option to cast a small object they have brought in, or select something from around the workshop to make a plaster piece mould. Day twoYou will finish the plaster piece mould and have the options of making a cast in wax, plaster or fast setting concrete with colour pigment finishes. Open to all levels including beginners. Old clothes essential and we recommend heavy-duty boots. Basic material costs included. Hot-Melt Rubber Mould Making & Casting Course (August 2018)


This four day workshop will cover the principles of mould making and casting techniques. From two part plaster moulds you will advance to reusable PVC moulding rubber moulds, using a range of materials. The workshop will aim to cover the principles of making: 1. A two piece plaster mould, from a choice or combination of either found or modelled objects. Determining the parting line and registration of the mould pieces is essential to the success of this type of moulding. 2. A  backup mould from an object of your making. This mould combines plaster, clay and Gelflex which is a hot-melt PVC moulding rubber that can be reused. It can produce good detail and cope with undercuts in the master pattern. Castings from the mould can be made from a variety materials including wax, plaster or concrete. Safe workshop practice will be covered. It is essential to wear old clothes and strong footwear.
