About Us

In the past The Dropping Well has hosted a community morgue, been the birthplace of the Holy Hour and been home to Prize Boxing. Established in black 1847 when the famine was at its height, by John Howe and his wife, the licensed premises also housed a community morgue. Here the bodies of starvation victims were taken before burial. n nAt the turn of the century, and with the morgue long gone, PH Meagher bought the premises and created a new attraction within the pub, a specially erected boxing ring.
