RAKU FIRING PART 2

PART TWO of a TWO PART COURSE.  You must book PART ONE to be able to take part in the Raku Firing Day. In this workshop we will fire the bisqueware that you made the previous week. We will use raku glazes and oxides and see what exciting crackles and colour combinations we can create. Raku firing involves glazing your bisqueware and then placing it in an outside kiln. The kiln is then fired by propane gas up to 1000 degrees. The kiln is then opened at this temperature and the pieces are removed an immediately put into a bin with combustable material such as sawdust or shredded paper and starved of oxygen. After reduction has taken place the pieces are cooled and then washed to reveal an exciting array of crackles, colours and metalllic glows. The Raku firing is dependant on fine weather and so if there is rain forecast I will offer an alternative date to come and fire.  You will need to bring a packed lunch or you are welcome to go and explore the towns cafes or nip into Waitrose. I have three dogs who I mantion in case of allergies and also suggest your lunch box is dog proof! Any questions please email me: [email protected]

Defeat The Helix: The Human Resistance Needs You!

Anyone can enter Mission HQ to help defeat The Helix at an Open Saturday or a Genome Late but could you accept a second mission to be part of the human resistance? You have 1 hour to race against the clock in this bookable immersive game for teams of 3-6 players. We recommend this for players aged 14+.  Once you've booked a session, make sure you register all of your players for that event too, on the date that you will be attending!   FAQs I can no longer attend my session, what should I do? There are limited sessions available, and they are in high demand. If your group is no longer able to make your reservation, please cancel your booking using Eventbrite, or by emailing the Wellcome Genome Campus team: [email protected] Do I need to prepare?  There isn't anything that you need to prepare for this immersive game, nor bring anything special with you. You will not need to use your mobile phones or other devices as part of the experience. How can I contact the organiser with any questions? Please email the Wellcome Genome Campus team if you have any questions: [email protected]

SATURDAY MAKING for raku workshop

This is Part One of a Two Part course. You need to book BOTH sessions separately. PLEASE READ CAREFULLY BEFORE BOOKING. In this class we will make several pieces which I will then bisque fire.  You will return the following week to glaze and take part in the raku firing. Your pieces will be ready to take home after the second session. I will talk you through the best shapes to make to ensure a successful firing and help you make your pieces.  Raku ware is not food safe and cannot be dishwasher proof nor is it reliably waterproof so please note that fact when choosing your designs. The cost of the two sessions is £100 plus booking fees.  The first session is £30 and the firing session is £70. The firing session will be dependant on the weather and if it is raining heavily we will be unable to fire. If this happens I will offer an alternative date to fire. You will need to bring a packed lunch for the firing session and please note the timings of each session. I have three dogs who will be around and who I mention in case of allergies. There is no parking at my house in Gold Street but Waitrose car park is behind our house.
