Hempolics

The Hempolics bring an infectious mash-up of Reggae, Electro, Hip-Hop, Soul, Rock and Pop, with strictly sunshine vibes, resplendent with huge hooks, organic rootsy vibes, bumping sound system bass and a wanderlusty, ineffably real sound all of their own.
“Could be my new favourite band of all time!” - Liz Kershaw, BBC6.
Their debut album ‘Kiss, Cuddle & Torture Vol. 1’ was playlisted by BBC6 Music with support from Steve Lamacq, Toddla T, Rodigan & Don Letts and was shortlisted as BBC6 Music Best Album of the year.

The Hempolics are out to put those organic rootsy vibes back into music; with their fat radio-friendly hooks, bumping soundsystem bass and a wanderlusty, ineffably real sound all of their own...

Over years of recording top international talent The Hempolics enigmatic leader, Grippa Laybourne, has been carefully honing his own masterpiece and selecting a gang armed and dangerous enough to execute it. The Hempolics caused an instant stir with their debut single Serious which hit number one in the UK reggae charts and was playlisted on Massive Attack’s BBC takeover.

The Jam'd - 2019 Tour

The Queens Hall, Narberth is delighted to welcome the UK’s number 1 tribute to The Jam to Narberth on Saturday the 27th July 2019. With their own brass section, The Jam’d are entirely committed to providing audiences with a memorable and authentic performance with all the energy, passion and style you could dream of.

As full time touring professional musicians, and massive Jam fans themselves, the band don’t “try to be” or “pretend to be” The Jam, but rather put on a performance from the heart and soul, drawing on all their memories, experiences and love of what was the country’s biggest band in their day.

The band have spent past years gigging up and down the UK at festivals, scooter rallies and some of the UK’s top tribute venues & events! The performance also includes the only replica of Rick Bucklers ‘Great White’ drum kit! You won’t be disappointed!

Every effort is placed into reproducing the sound, arrangements and energy of a Jam gig. Those who saw The Jam live will remember the electricity, aggression, passion, and even fashion on stage, something not always prevalent in today’s world, but to The Jam’d, it is a passion, a mission, and an honour to play for fans of “the best band in the f#@*ing world!”.

Tickets: Advance - £15 + £1 booking fee.

Angels – Messenger or missile

Angels, familiar and fantastic, playing major and minor roles, can be seen in centuries of paintings, engravings, illustrations and sculptures. Archangel Gabriel and the Annunciation or Archangel Michael fighting the good fight. Angelic references also abound in Islamic and Jewish traditions, the latter beautifully evoked in Chagall’s Bible Message. Time to contrast the beauty and light of cherubims and seraphims with the dark, fiery abyss of Satan and contemplate the Angel of the North.Followed by wine and mince pies

Diocletian’s Palace at Split

The late antique emperor Diocletian saved the empire from collapse by instituting a new system of government. However, his most enduring legacy was probably his wide-ranging building schemes which included renovation work at Palmyra, Luxor and the existing Senate House in the Roman Forum. This lecture looks at his monumental palace at Split (modern day Croatia) including the domed mausoleum and the southern facade along the sea front. We will also consider its impact on the young architect Robert Adam, leading to him publishing illustrations of the building and subsequently to its influence on neo-classicism and 18th century architecture. Please join us for drinks and a light lunch following the November lecture

Faulty Towers: The Dining Experience - Afternoon

This 5 star show that tours the world is ‘a two-hour eat, drink and laugh sensation’! (Daily Telegraph, UK)

When the audience become diners in the ‘Faulty Towers’ restaurant, pretty much anything can happen – because 70% of the show is improvised. The fun starts as guests wait to be seated. It then hurtles along in a 2-hour tour de force of gags and shambolic service as Basil, Sybil and Manuel serve a ‘70s-style 3-course meal together with a good dollop of mayhem. Expect the unexpected!

Internationally acclaimed, the show was born in April 1997 as a loving tribute to the BBC’s much-loved TV series. Nearly a million people around the world have seen it since.

‘A solid two hours of madness and a fantastic tribute to the much-loved BBC sitcom that leaves you bursting in laughter’ The Advertiser, Adelaide Fringe

‘Outrageously funny’ Broadway Baby, Edinburgh Fringe

‘Hilarious… catch it before it leaves’ Best of Toronto, Sony Centre for the Performing Arts

‘Two hours of non-stop laughter’ Arendals Tidende, Norway

‘Outstanding’ De Volkskrant, The Netherlands

THIS TICKET IS FOR THE AFTERNOON SITTING

Tickets are £45 + £1 booking fee. Ticket includes 3-course set menu meal

Masterpieces from The Barber Institute of Fine Art

This lecture will explore lecturer Leslie Primo's personal favourite paintings from the rich and varied collection of paintings that make up The Barber Institute of Fine Arts Collection. Beginning with works that as yet still have no artists attributed to them, the lecture will be looking at works as diverse as Botticelli, van Dyck, Aelbert Cuyp from Rubens through to Degas and Gauguin. The lecture will place these works in that context of those from national collections; drawing parallels and contrasts..

This lecture will not only revel in the exquisite details in some of these works with detailed explanations of the meanings, but it will also look at a hidden aspect of these works and that is the appearance and function of black figures in these Masterpieces.
