Concerts at the Courthouse featuring Magic Bus

A variety of local area musicians take center stage every Friday night throughout the summer on the lawn of the Historic Howell Courthouse as Concerts at the Courthouse enters its 21st season! This perennially popular program is a free series of concerts presented by the Livingston Arts Council throughout the summer, featuring rock, folk and blues entertainment at an outdoor family (and pet)-friendly venue. Pack a blanket or chair, and bring a snack or eat at one of Howell’s many downtown restaurants before enjoying the evening’s entertainment! This year’s series begins with Magic Bus, a psychedelic rock tribute to the Woodstock era. If you are too young to remember that magical time, you can now be transported back there by taking a ride with the “Magic Bus.” Their incredible musical abilities and authentic look will transcend the modern and jet you back to the Haight-Ashbury District of San Francisco in 1967 - a time of musical and creative energy that has never been equaled before or since. Concerts at the Courthouse runs every Friday night from June 28th – August 23rd. In the event of inclement weather, concerts may be cancelled – listen to WHMI 93.5 for updates or visit the Livingston Arts Council Facebook page. No alcoholic beverages are permitted.

Rep. Mueller Roads Town Hall

State Rep. Mike Mueller of Linden will host a town hall meeting with special guest Rep. Jack O’Malley of Lake Ann on Tuesday, June 25 to discuss road funding in Michigan. “When it comes to fixing our roads, I am passionate about pursuing innovative ideas,” Rep. Mueller said. “Any Michigan driver knows there is a great disparity between the investment in our roads and a quality outcome. This town hall is a great opportunity to share some insight into this problem and hear your thoughts and questions. O’Malley chairs the House Transportation Committee and is working with fellow House members on innovative approaches to road funding and repairs. Heywood Banks at the Howell Opera House

Back by popular demand, the Howell Opera House is pleased to announce the return of hometown comedic legend Heywood Banks! Heywood Banks is simply one-of-a-kind, almost impossible to describe, with a style his very own. Equal parts genius and buffoon, this songwriter-comic-singer-poet-musician has become a cult hero and a pop icon, with a show that appeals to college students, stoners, businessmen, yuppies, rednecks, punks, kids, and/or your grandmother. He intersperses his humorous observations of life with twisted, inventive, bizarre songs, sung and played in a variety of styles - from folk, to country, to rock, to pop, and way beyond. You have to be pretty smart to get Heywood at his deepest level (he demands a high level of pop culture literacy), but you can also enjoy him just for his vocal style impersonations, expert musicianship and just plain silliness. Doors will open at 6:45 pm; performance begins at 7:30 pm. There will be a cash bar with light concessions available for purchase. General admission is $25 and can be purchased in advance by calling the Howell Opera House office at 517-540-0065 or online at www.howelloperahouse.com. If any spots remain, they will be sold at the door on a first-come, first-serve basis.
