NAH Open House


Thank you for your interest in the Nursing and Allied Health programs at St. Charles Community College! At SCC, we believe in giving back to the community and providing students with more bang for their buck! We know your time is valuable, your experiences vast, and your curiousity about SCC's offerings, so please join us for a Nursing and Allied Health Open House. You can plan to tour the Center for Healthy Living campus, which offers state-of the-art equipment and full accessibility; meet some of the faculty, who will discuss their respective programs; and learn about several different career offerings, which vary from phlebotomy to Health Information Management. Come with an open-mind, as you may arrive with an interest in nursing and leave pursuing the AAS in Occupational Therapy Assistant. We are excited to meet you and help you get started on your journey to education and career satisfaction.

Hunter-Dawson Cemetery Tour


Come out to Hunter-Dawson Cemetery and meet some of New Madrid’s most interesting former residents. We will introduce you to George Washington Dawson, who was a Confederate officer in the Civil War and died of disease; Robert Goah Watson, an early pioneer in New Madrid who was killed in a land dispute; and many more.

 

Hunter-Dawson Cemetery is located on the corner of St. Isadore and St. Paul streets in New Madrid.

1860s Children's Day


Children of all ages are invited to Hunter-Dawson State Historic Site for 1860s Children’s Day. Children will have the opportunity to learn what life was like in the 1860s by participating in common chores and games from that era. Activities will include washing clothes with a washboard, dipping candles, churning butter, making rag dolls and walking on stilts.

Victorian Mourning Practices


The public is invited to experience Victorian mourning practices at Hunter-Dawson State Historic Site. The formal parlors with curtains drawn and black fabric covering mirrors will be astonishing to see. Postmortem photographs and clothing worn while in mourning will be on display, adding to the somber atmosphere.

 

A free program explaining these practices will be held Saturday, Nov. 9 at 1 p.m., 1:30 p.m. and 2 p.m. The house will be in mourning throughout November during normal tour hours.
