Ashton Lane at Eden Court

Ashton Lane returns to the One Touch theatre in Inverness after a highly successful acoustic show their last year. This time they will be performing with their full band and kick off a tour to promote their brand new album Travelling Mercies... Expect to hear tracks from the new album alongside favorites from their back catalog  There is also the option of joining the band for a pre-show meet and greet with exclusive VIP access to the  soundcheck, glass of bubbly on arrival and an exclusive performance from the band.  2018 has seen Ashton Lane perform a sold-out 13 date UK tour followed by a 2-week tour of Germany and Austria.   They are currently recording their new album Travelling Mercies which will be released on 29 November 2018.  Over the last 18 months, Ashton Lane have been showcasing their new songs via the hugely popular, weekly ‘Kitchen Sessions’ where they perform their songs live on Facebook for their large online following. They also secured their first number one single on the iTunes country charts with 'Breathe You In'.  They are also keeping their fans up to date on the song-writing and recording process of their new album, via their own exclusive direct to fan App.   Proving to be a band continually ahead of the curve, Ashton Lane continues to build a loyal and enthusiastic fan base in the emerging UK country scene. They’ve already sold well in excess of 25,000 albums independently and they are steadily solidifying their position as one of the main UK Country acts to watch out for. What people are saying about Ashton Lane:   Maverick Magazine: ***** (5 stars) “A force to be reckoned with on the UK Country Scene”   Americana UK: "More country music should sound like this"   The Scotsman: (Artist of the Week) "They have a talent for penning catchy, radio-friendly country hits"   Up Country Magazine: "This is an album of the very highest quality in writing, musicianship, and production... To say this is an excellent album from Ashton Lane is an understatement"   Baylen Leonard (Radio 2/Chris Country): “Lady Antebellum are Nashville’s answer to Ashton Lane if you want my opinion”   The Sunday Express: ***** (5 Stars) "It's clear from the title track that you are listening to something special... "   The Herald: **** (4 Stars) "Esther has the best voice heard in some time. And a fine set of songs to show it off."   The List: **** (4 Stars) "She flits effortlessly between husky poppiness to soulful, stripped down and spine tingling"   Allan Watkiss, UK Country Radio: "'Breathe You In' is one of those songs I loved on first hearing. The close harmonies throughout coupled with the almost-bluegrass instrumentation mixed into a modern country feel had me hooked straight away"   Jeremy Vine (BBC Radio 2): “Fresh, self-assured and original - Esther's music just makes you happy to be alive. What a great new talent."

Tackling Child Poverty in Highland: Challenges & Opportunities

Scotland has ambitious targets to reduce child poverty by 2030. Delivering on these targets will require action from national and local government in Scotland, as well as from organisations in the third and private sectors. But what actions will make the biggest difference, what matters most to people living on low incomes, and what do we know about what works right now? June 2019 will see the publication of new Local Child Poverty Action Reports from Local Authorities and Health Boards across Scotland, an important moment in the development of Scotland's approach to tackling poverty. This event will look at the opportunities and challenges that exist in the Highlands for addressing child and family poverty. Specifically during the event we will discuss the commitments that are being made in the new Highland Local Child Poverty Action Report; to hear more about the approaches that are being taken across Scotland; to look at how community and voluntary organsiations, and people with direct experience of poverty, can feed into the development of action to tackle poverty.  At the seminar you will also learn more about the Get Heard Scotland initiative which is working to ensure people with experience of poverty and those working on the front line can feed into the development of anti-poverty policy at the local and national levels.  This half-day seminar is for everyone who wants to better understand the Scottish Government’s approach to addressing child poverty, who wants to know how child poverty is being tackled in Highland, and who wants to contribute to shaping local and national priorities. This event is free to attend.  Registration is at 10.45am, the event starts at 11am and will finish at 1pm with a sandwich lunch. Travel and caring costs can be reimbursed for those living on a low income.  Please let us know when registering if you will need these costs covered.

Delivery Plan Consultation: Inverness

Have your say in shaping the next National Strategy Delivery Plan for museums in Scotland Work is underway to create the third and final Delivery Plan for the current National Strategy, Going Further: A National Strategy for Scotland’s Museums and Galleries.MGS is inviting everyone who works or volunteers in Scotland’s museums and galleries to work with us to produce the new plan. Your contribution will ensure that it is grounded in knowledge of the current landscape and future aspirations of the Scottish sector. Our aim is to ensure that the new plan is produced for the sector, by the sector, enabling us all to work together for the benefit of Scottish museums; our collections our workforce and our communities. To date, feedback indicates that the strategy’s six aims are still considered relevant to our work. We will work throughout Scotland to re-envision the actions of the new Delivery Plan, addressing the current and future landscape. We will consult the sector online and through facilitated events in Edinburgh, Perth, Inverness and Dumfries. Join us at any of these facilitated sessions, where we will explore the six aims of the National Strategy and will drill down on feedback gathered through the online consultation. The online survey is now open until 14th June (a PDF/Word version of the questions is available, to help you to formulate your responses before entering them into the online survey). The information will be used to illustrate the impact of the strategy to date and the findings and feedback from the consultations will be used to shape the next plan. We plan to launch the third Delivery Plan in January 2020.We are also currently evaluating the second Delivery Plan (Realising the Vision: Delivering Public Value Through Scotland's Museums and Galleries), and earlier this month called for examples of how we are all meeting the aims of the National Strategy.
