Author Event with Glen James Brown and Ronan Hession

DRAKE – The Bookshop Invites you to an afternoon of banter and books Sunday June 16th 1pm – 3pm In the Music Room at Preston Park Museum It is our great pleasure to be able to host an event with two writers whose books we have been most excited about selling in our four years of being booksellers: Ronan Hession & Glen James Brown   Leonard and Hungry Paul – Ronan Hession Leonard and Hungry Paul are two friends who see the world differently. They use humour, board games and silence to steer their way through the maelstrom that is the 21st century. This wonderful book has been quietly stealing into people’s hearts over the past few months. It is published by a small independent publisher – Bluemoose Books, based in Hebden Bridge, and it has quickly become a firm favourite with independent book shops. However, recently chosen as a Radio 2 Book Club book and with big name publishers vying for publishing rights this little book is about to go viral!   Ironopolis – Glen James Brown Stranded on the edge of Ironopolis – nickname to a lost industrial Middlesbrough – the Burn Council Estate is about to be torn down to make way for regeneration. For the future…. This book about working class lives in a fictional Middlesbrough has just been nominated for the Orwell Prize for political fiction. Glen joined us for the launch of the paperback last year and we are so pleased that this book is finally getting the recognition it deserves.   This event is a free event, both books will be available to buy on the day and both authors will be signing their books.

Pension and Taxation Seminar / North Tees Hospital

The full gravity of the Government’s recent change to the annual pension savings allowance may recently have hit home for many doctors.  Those who have paid more into their pension(s) than the allowance permits may well have received unwelcome news from the NHS Pension Agency, confirming they have a tax liability. It’s important to know where you stand. Not everybody effected would have been contacted. The Agency only knows about your NHS earnings and not your private earnings, for example from private practice, investments or rental property. Now that the annual allowance is tapered based on your total taxable earnings, your situation may well have changed. Chase de Vere Medical partners of the BMA can help to make things clearer. Free pensions taxation seminarThis event is free to attend and you are very welcome to bring a guest. Over 60-minutes, Chase de Vere will explain: what’s changed and how to work out if you are affected the options available to those who breach the allowance, and different ways to manage your pension contributions in the future how you could minimise and potentially avoid the annual allowance tax charge altogether the lifetime allowance, what it means for you and what can be done to mitigate its impact. You’ll also be able to ask the presenters any questions that you have on these important topics. Timings: 1.30pm – 1.45pm Arrival and Registration 1.45pm – 3pm Presentation with Q&A session. Register now Places are limited and we expect demand to be high, so register your attendance now to avoid disappointment.
