Thrive and Grow Project at Poltimore House

Thrive & Grow Project at Poltimore House The Thrive and Grow Project is a community gardening project that encourages people to come together and develop a shared vegetable garden and learn about horticulture. This project will take place in the gardens of Poltimore House where we have the use of a large polytunnel and a number of raised beds.  In addition, horticultural therapist Zoe Colson-Spence will be facilitating  these session.  Zoe has a wealth of experience in this area, she set up a community gardening project in Sussex called Roots to Growth, which was a 6 acre site that developed 'project allotments’, where everything grown was used to cook lunches for those working on site. Hopefully we can recreate this is a small way at Poltimore. Here are some of the activities that will be taking place over the next few months: Developing a small vegetable garden Working together in a shared vegetable bed Learn how to grow various types of vegetables Opportunity to work in small creative groups Chance to work outside in the grounds Poltimore House Work at you own pace over a number of weeks What will be supplied on this project: Return transport from Poltimore House to Exeter via the Poltimore Minibus Gardening tools (not clothing or gloves) Soil, compost if required Tea, Coffee and biscuits The next session will be on Wednesday 20th March with collection/pick up at Palce Gate in Exeter at 10:30am.  This will be an opportunity for everyone to get together and take a look at the areas available and planning what you want to grow. Why do we want to do this? Well, participatory projects are at the heart of the Meridian Raw CIC ethos and what better way to bring people together and help build relationships through growing and gardening.  In addition, there are so many positive aspects to this gardening, which include:  Experiencing physical exercise and gets you out in the fresh air You can work at your own pace and get a sense of achievement from the results Regular gardening can bring a new structure to your life Working in a small, safe environment with like mined people  Gardening had be found to help with mental health and wellbeing Developing a garden is fun and allows you to express your creativity.
