Watercolour Blossoms & Botanicals (Summer drop-in workshop)

A Summer-long guide to falling in love with Colour through painting blossoms and botanicals using the best quality watercolours. Colour has great influence on our psyche every day. In this workshop we will play with incredibly simple techniques for creating beautiful flowers, from the joyful warm yellows and golds in spring daffodils to the explosive soft pinks and burgundys in cherry blossoms. Savour the richness of colour in all its natural glory as we become attuned to colours that sing when used together in harmony. This workshop emphasizes the fluid, sensual, loose expression of watercolour paints using high quality Daniel Smith watercolours. The fundamentals of observational drawing will be gently touched upon each class, more as a simple guide to encapsulate colour. We will also play with new materials and techniques, including masking fluid. Here you are free to embrace and fall in love with your own style. The idea is to release negative old programing so we can move forward with ease in our individual creative practice. The beauty of watercolour is twofold- it is so compact you can take it anywhere, and like love, it teaches you the balance between control and letting go. All high quality materials are provided. Simply show up to this high vibrational space with an open mind, and a willingness to let go. Beginner and intermediate levels are welcome! ** Register here through Eventbrite, OR by bank e-transfer to [email protected] to avoid fees ** If paying by e-transfer please Contact Daina first to ensure availability as workshops fill up quickly. Saturdays, 9:00-12:00 pm, $75/class Each week will include a new demo, but there will always be freedom to paint your favourite flowers, along with many other references from which to gain inspiration! See you in Class!

Willie Watson

Doors open at 6:00 pm Show at 7:30 pm / Please car pool There are picnic tables outside the hall and there will be food carts on site Additional picnic area nearby at Drummond Park ________________________________________________________________ For nearly two decades, Willie Watson has made modern folk music rooted in older traditions. Hes a folksinger in the classic sense: a singer, storyteller, and traveller, with a catalog of songs that bridge the gap between the past and present. He acts as a modern interpreter of older songs, passing along his own version of the music that came long before him. Most recently, Willie Watson starred in the Coen Brothers film, The Ballad of Buster Scruggs and recorded the Grammy®-nominated song, "When a Cowboy Trades his Spurs for Wings" for the films soundtrack. From southern gospel to railroad songs, delta blues, Irish fiddle tunes and Appalachian music, Willie Watsons albums feature songs popularized by artists like Leadbelly, Reverend Gary Davis, Furry Lewis, and Bascom Lamar Lunsford. The songs don't actually belong to those artists, though - they don't belong to anyone. Instead, they're part of the folk canon, passed from generation to generation by singers like Watson. Nodding to the past without resurrecting it, Willie Watson turns his versions into something much more than an interpretation of older songs. His music furthers the legacy of American folk and perhaps most importantly, it shows the full range of Willie Watsons artistry, matching his instrumental and vocal chops with a strong appreciation for the songs that have shaped not only a genre, but an entire country. Willie Watson was a founding member of Old Crow Medicine Show and also tours with the Dave Rawlings Machine (along with Gillian Welch). ________________________________________________________________________________ Tickets are transferable but not refundable. Children over the age of 2 years must be in a ticketed seat and must remain seated during the performance. Parents are asked to not leave children unattended at any time.
