Have your say... a cultural strategy for Dumfries and Galloway - Tuesday July 23, Waverley Hall, Creetown

Dumfries and Galloway Council and its partners, including DG Unlimited, are creating a Cultural Strategy for our region. We want the strategy to help unlock the potential of culture - by which we mean arts and heritage of all types - to make a positive difference to people’s lives in Dumfries and Galloway.   At this session you’ll find out about the various ways in which you can get involved in the Cultural Strategy engagement process. You will also be able to contribute to the Strategy by telling us how you rate opportunities to engage in cultural activities in your community and what you think of the emerging vision and themes for the Strategy. You will have a chance to let us know what you think is going well, and what could be done to make culture more effective in making a positive difference to people’s lives in this region.

Sabbra Cadabra - 50th Anniversary Sabbath Show - WIGTON2!

BLACK SABBATH 50th ANNIVERSARY SHOW AT WIGTON! FOLLOWING THE AMAZING SELL OUT SHOW IN APRIL, SABBRA CADABRA ARE BACK! If you can't have the original Black Sabbath to celebrate 50 years since they played Wigton Market Hall...get the next best thing! Sabbra Cadabra are the UK's best and most authentic Black Sabbath tribute and they are bringing a 2 hour show of Black Sabbath classics to one of their 'spiritual homes' - Wigton near Carlisle played host to Sabbath on two occasions in 1969 (March 28th and July 25th). Sabbra Cadabra want to pay tribute to Cumbria's support for the first incarnations of the band when they were still known as Polka Tulk, Earth and then Black Sabbath. Sabbra Cadabra are the finest UK tribute to Sabbath, they only play Sabbath classics from the Ozzy era. They don't play Ozzy solo tunes, no Zakk Wylde or Randy Rhoads style versions, no dodgy 'pub-band' versions, no dodgy wigs, no changing the keys from the originals - just two hours of classic Sabbath, played like Sabbath, sounds like Sabbath. NOT TO BE MISSED!

Child Wellbeing and Protection in Sport Training - Newton Stewart Golf Club

Child Wellbeing & Protection in Sport The former UK Coaching Safeguarding & Protecting Children workshop has been discontinued and replaced with Child Wellbeing & Protection in Sport (CWPS), created by sportscotland in partnership with Children 1st to refresh and update the content to reflect changes in society and sport and be more relevant for current coaching practice. Taking a blended learning approach, the main change is the inclusion of an eLearning (Module 1) which is theory-based, followed by a three-hour face-to-face training course (Module 2) that puts the learning from Module 1 into context and practice. Who should attend This course is suitable for all adults involved in sports organisations that have participants under the age of 18. It is targeted at all practitioners, ie all coaches and volunteers over the age of 16 working and volunteering directly with children and young people. Module 1 – eLearning Virtual Classroom The CWPS eLearning Module 1 MUST be completed by learners before attending Module 2 and can be accessed via the link you will receive in your confirmation of registration email. NB: At the end of the online module you must make sure that you complete the learner details link to ensure you receive your certificate upon successful completion of both modules. The aim of the eLearning module is to introduce you to the basic theory, knowledge and practice that underpin child wellbeing and protection in sport and will help you to prepare for the face-to-face element of the training. By the end of Module 1 you will be able to: Understand what is meant by ‘child wellbeing and protection’ Recognise the value of a child-centred approach to child wellbeing and protection Identify good practice in relation to child wellbeing and protection and how this impacts the sports environment Recognise the legislative and policy framework around child wellbeing and protection Identify and respond to possible child wellbeing or protection concerns Identify the limits of your safeguarding role and know when to get support Module 2 – Face-to-face workshop The Module 2 workshop will raise your awareness of the tell-tale signs of abuse and provide you with the tools and confidence to deal with any issues sensitively, appropriately and effectively should the need ever arise in your coaching career.   By the end of Module 2 you will: Be introduced to the Spectrum of Practice and use it to consider, evaluate and respond to common coaching scenarios Receive an introduction to the factors that create a culture of poor practice Identify and recognise good coaching practice and the implications for your coaching Explore your values and feelings in relation to child abuse, and recognise their potential impact on your response Identify barriers to disclosure Cover the process for responding to concerns Put the Responding to Concerns Process into practice to deal with several complex sample cases For more information click here for FAQs.

Words Live

Scientifically speaking, regular grateful
thinking can increase happiness by as
much as twenty-five percent, and writing
or receiving thank-you letters is proven
to improve relationships, self-esteem and
your mindset.

Words Live is a curated collection of
gratitudes, from famous proclamations to
local interest, historic and contemporary
letters. Some of the words shared are
penned by names you know, some by
unknown people walking the streets of
Dumfries hundreds of years ago and
some from a little closer to home, written
especially for this event. These letters will
take centre stage as a concert of voices
brought to life by two performers who host
this inclusive performance; enveloping
you in the kindness of words and the
joy and laughter found in sharing them
together.

Come and be part of this exciting
and unique event full of warmth and
happiness, celebrating those two
important little words THANK YOU

Dark Sky Jazz: Fat Suit

Funky fresh Fat-Suit take influence
from the sounds of the Brownswood
recordings, the UK underground jazz
scene, and the broad soundscapes of
Scottish folk. Within the collective are
multi-disciplined musicians of jazz, folk,
rock, and electronic worlds. They take the
stage as an 8-piece on a late club slot, 14
in a concert hall or theatre, to 30 strong in
the studio. They embrace a seamless mix
of musical styles, with the priority being
to evoke maximum joy through energetic
live performance.
In 2017 they won ‘Best Band’ and ‘Best
Album’ for their third full-length release
‘Atlas’ at the Scottish Jazz Awards.
Expect togetherness, interaction and
infectious energy bursting from the
stage. This is a party curated by a new
generation of musicians, and they invite
you to join.
