Every Tuesday throughout the summer in upstairs in Brecon Library, 4-6pm.  Come and join in to explore creative writing and visual arts skills with the support of professional writers, Uschi Turoczy and Emma Beynon, and artist Tessa Waite.  Workshops are relaxed, inclusive and fun. Under 17s Driving Experience


RRF Driving School are hosting an Under 17s Driving experience in Brecon. This is a 15/30/45 minute session for those between the ages of 14-17 on the Day - there can be no exceptions due to insurance - Young Drivers need little or no driving experience.  Everyone will be given a time slot, you will need to arrive 10 minutes beforehand with a parent or gaurdian. Sessions are £45 for 45 mins or £30 for 30 mins or £15 for 15mins. Each participant will recieve an under 17, Drivers Record Card showing what they have covered and a certificate of achievement signed by an Authorised Approved Driving Instructor. 3 instructors will be available and the young driver will be assigned an instructor with your time slot at least 1 week in advance. All instructors are fully qualfied Driving instructors with specialist insurance to teach under 17s. All instructors are Enhanced DBS checked maintain their CPD and have recieved specialist child safeguarding training.  Full terms and conditions will be available and sent with your time slots.  Tickets are limited, but transferable.  If you are more than 5 mins late after your time slot has started - you will be unable to go out in the car due to event safety reasons.

FITBANKER Weekend Trek: Brecon Beacons, Wales, July 26-28 2019


Welcome! Thank you for your interest in the upcoming FITBANKER Trek. We host monthly treks across the UK & Wales, an annual Leadership Summit up the highest single standing mountain in the world, Mt. Gear up for this epic, big-view walk, which takes in the main summits and ridges of the central Brecon Beacons all in one go. Length: 11 miles (17.7km) Time: Around 4–6 hours Start and finish: Storey Arms, on A470 between Brecon and Merthyr Tydfil OS map ref: SO 982203 OS map: Explorer OL12 (1: 25 000 series) Facilities: Car park at Storey Arms. Toilets are located at the next car park, a few hundred metres to the south. Intensity: Moderate to High Who can do this: Anyone! We believe the only limitations exist in your mind. With the appropriate gear (please see the FITBANKER Trek Document on our FITBANKER Treks WhatApp Group) and a go-getter mindset you can accomplish this trek. (We had our 5 year old newphew do this climb with us last year. Yes, carrying on shoulders was required occassionally, and it was achievable!) Accommodation: Basic Scouts hostels with bunk beds, a fully functional large kitchen, and camping grounds. We recommend all those participating in the FITBANKER Kilimanjaro Leadership Summit to come prepared to camp outdoors. Meals: Friday dinner options depend on respective arrival time - we advise collecting something either at services on the way or bringing something with you from home.  Saturday breakfast, FITBANKER will provide complementary protein oats, feel free to bring your own breakfast preferences. Lunch will be on the mountain with the snacks you pack (please see the FITBANKER Trek Document on our FITBANKER Treks WhatApp Group for healthy treks snack options). Dinner will be out in town and/or cooked in house (TBC). Sunday brunch will also be out in town before we head back to London. Transport Options: Departure on Friday morning and depart from Wales on Sunday morning following brunch. Transport costs will be in addition to Registration fees. Below are the three transport options in order of preference: Personal Vehicle: If you choose to drive your own vehicle to Wales, and offer to carry fellow trekkers with you, we recommend they contribute £15-£20 per person towards your car wear & tear, in addition to the fuel costs that will be equally split amongst all passengers per vehicle. To keep the cost breakdown simple, we recommend you return in the same vehicle you got to Wales in to fairly cover costs of the driver. (Best option cost-wise) Car Hire: A hired car will depart from Chiswick W4 2TS at 11am on Friday 26th July. If you opt for this, inform the FITBANKER Team ASAP. First come first served. Additional vehicles may be hired depending on numbers. In all instances, car hire and fuel costs will be equally split amongts all passengers.  Train: Doable, although it is worth noting a cab, at the indivudal's own expense, will be needed to get around Wales. SMW Summer Camp 2019


The Big Adventure is now called Summer Camp and  is an action-packed, outdoor activity week for children aged 8-11 (primary school age). During the week we will be exploring our faith through loads of exciting games, team challenges and activities, worship, crafts, interactive small groups and much more! All based at The Summit Centre which is located in the heart of the Welsh Valleys, south of Merthyr Tydfil and is overlooked by beautiful hills and woodland. The residential centre is just 25 minutes from the M4 and boasts stunning indoor  climbing Walls,  outdoor play area, a man-made caving system,  Ariel Adventure, Abseiling, bushcraft, Campfire, Canoeing, and Night Hikes. This week is aimed at children already linked with The Salvation Army in their community and is ideal for those wanting to experience new things and learn more about life as a young Christian. Pen y Fan Sunrise Walk Sunday 28th July


A truly breath-taking experience.  A dark climb to the summit of the highest peak in the South of the UK under the stars and moonlight.  This event will see us on the summit for the sunrise to take in the glorious and spectacular views that Pen y Fan has to offer.  We then descend on a wonderful route that will reveal its fascinating history to us as we pass some interesting landmarks on our walk.  Many people have been to the top of Pen y Fan, but not too many have seen the sunrise from this spectacular setting or from this quiet and secluded route that offers more dramatic and beautiful views.   It is a circular route, so we finish the walk at the same place we start. The trip is fully guided and supported to ensure your safety and enjoyment.   Please note This event is to see the sunrise from the summit on the day of the event.  This means we start very early on that specific day.  You may need to travel the night before the event so that you arrive at the meeting point in time.  Please check the date carefully as once your booking is processed, we are unable to move you to another event.   Itinerary Arrive at the designated location in the early hours of the morning where will do introductions, and a briefing.  We will take time to ensure that everyone is organised and ready before we set off on the hike.  The walk is about 7 miles and is a circular route, so we will finish back at our start point.  The pace will be steady, and we will have time for breaks and stops for snacks as required.  Once we have triumphantly completed our walk we will set off for home with great memories, stories and photographs of the weekend.  A detailed itinerary of the event including timings, directions to the meeting point and further information about the event, will be sent out to all booked participants.   Training and Preparation We will ensure that you have all the information you need, and our expert team of experienced guides will ensure your safety throughout the event.  However, the more preparation you put in before the event the greater your enjoyment and chance of success.     This is a mountain.  This is the highest mountain in the South of the UK.  The terrain is rugged, rocky and mountainous so please arrive prepared.  You will need the correct kit.  Your footwear is particularly important.  If you are not used to hiking or hill-walking, then the sooner that you start training the better.  Your chance of success on any of our events can be greatly increased by being well prepared for the challenge ahead; mentally, physically and with the right equipment.  If you have any questions, then please ask us.   Event Grading This is not a technical hike, so the summit is within reach of any reasonably fit and determined person.  Our route up Pen y Fan is not the usual route that many people take each day, so it is more challenging.  The added interest of starting in the dark and walking as the light begins to paint the landscape with its vibrant colours adds to the atmosphere, the adventure, and the experience.  The pace is steady and there is time for breaks and photo opportunities. Our social media channels contain photographs, videos and customer reviews from all our previous trips and are a great way to engage with us and get an idea of what to expect on the event. We use a 5-star rating system to give you an idea of what to expect on this event.  This covers any technical skills that may be required, the exposure of the event to heights or edges and the fitness level required. Technical Rating - 1 star Exposure Rating - 2 stars Fitness Required - 2 stars   Why choose SVL Adventures We are passionate about providing amazing events and amazing customer service.  From the moment you make an enquiry about an event we will provide you with all the information and support that you need so that you can be confident in making your decision to book with us.  We believe our past customers are the best judge of what we do, so please look at the reviews and comments we have received on our Facebook page form our many satisfied customers.  We are the selected provider for many events for charities and corporate clients and have provided many bespoke private events such as the National 3 Peaks Challenge, The Welsh 3 Peaks Challenge and Sunrise Challenges.   Terms and Conditions We reserve the right to alter certain elements of our events if this is necessary due to factors outside of our control, such as the weather.  This allows us to put your safety and satisfaction as a priority.   For example, it may provide a safer and more enjoyable experience if we decide to take a different route that will give us more shelter from any wind and rain that has been forecast.  These decisions can only be made dynamically on the event.  It is very rare for us to cancel an event, and this is only done if extreme weather conditions mean that it would be unsafe and unwise for us to continue.  If an event is cancelled, then it will be rescheduled where possible, or a refund will be issued, although we cannot be responsible for other costs that you may have incurred.   Safety & Insurance Safety will always be our number one priority.  We take that responsibility very seriously and we have a continuous development approach to our own skills.  All the guides that we employ on our events are experienced and qualified Mountain Leaders with up to date remote first aid qualifications.  We occasionally also use assistants, who may not be fully qualified, but who are experienced and working towards gaining their qualifications.  They will always be under the supervision and guidance of an experienced leader.  We are fully insured through John Ansell and partners under the British Activity Holiday Insurance Services Scheme.  We take every care to ensure that all our participants are safe and well looked after, but there is also an individual responsibility on the participant to listen and act upon any advice given by our leaders or assistants, to be aware of their own safety, and to act in a manner that is fitting of the outdoor environment that we are operating in.  Any participant who does not adhere to instructions or guidance from any of our leaders may be putting themselves and the rest of our group at risk and as such will no longer be considered as part of our group and may be asked to leave.  We will not be responsible for their safety from that point onwards.   Environment The impact that we all have on the environment can be substantial.  We work hard to keep our impact to a minimum; our processes and back office systems, our travel plans, our time in the outdoors planning the events, and the events themselves.  We expect our participants to adhere to the simple guideline that we leave nothing behind.  Anything that is carried on an event is taken back with us.  No material, rubbish or items of any kind will be left behind, this includes banana skins, apple cores or any other matter.  Noise should be kept at an acceptable level for the time of day and location.  Leave only footprints, take only photographs and memories.   Dogs We are sometimes able to allow dogs onto our walks.  However, if you wish to bring your dog with you on an event, then you must let us know beforehand. Failure to do so might mean that you will be unable to take part in the event as the event or route may not be suitable for dogs. Dogs must always be kept on a short lead and must always be under control and well behaved and you must take responsibility for your dog. Some of the accommodation we use for our longer events do not allow dogs, so we may need to find alternative accommodation, and this may affect the price of your place on the event.   Photographs and Video We encourage people to take photographs and video of the event.  We may also take photographs and video of the event and this may sometimes include images of the people on the event.  We reserve the right to use any photographs or video footage from the event, taken either by our team or by participants on the event, on our social media channels.  If you do not want to be on any photographs or video, then please make us aware of this.  All photographs and video remain the property of the person who took them and credit will be given to the photographer.  When you post a photo or video from the event mention should be made of SVL Adventures as the organiser and as the provider of the leadership and management on the event.   Any articles in press or online If any of our events are a feature of any promotion, marketing, press releases, statements newsletters or any other similar writings, either in print or online, on public or corporate channels, then credit and mention of SVL Adventures as the organiser and as the provider of the leadership and management on the event must be included.    Intellectual Property We spend a great deal of time, money and energy designing and developing our events.  This includes route planning, checking the routes, having various options on each route, completing risk assessments and assessing accommodation.  All this work produces material which is the intellectual property of SVL Adventures and cannot be reproduced.   Equipment It is the participants responsibility to ensure that any equipment that is borrowed is returned in full working and serviceable order at the end of the event.  Any unreturned items or damaged items will be invoiced at the full replacement cost.   For more information please email [email protected]
