Tackling child poverty in North Ayrshire: Challenges & opportunities

Scotland has ambitious targets to reduce child poverty by 2030. Delivering on these targets will require action from national and local government in Scotland, as well as from organisations in the third and private sectors. But what actions will make the biggest difference, what matters most to people living on low incomes, and what do we know about what works right now? This event - hosted in partnership between the Poverty Alliance and North Ayrshire Council - will look at the opportunities and challenges that exist in North Ayrshire for addressing child and family poverty, and how these challenges can be addressed using the voices of people experiencing poverty. Specifically during the event we will: discuss the commitments that are being made in the new North Ayrshire Local Child Poverty Action Report; hear more about the approaches that are being taken across Scotland; explore how community and voluntary organisations, and people with direct experience of poverty, can feed into the development of action to tackle poverty. At the event you will also learn more about the Get Heard Scotland initiative, which is working to ensure people with experience of poverty and those working on the frontline can feed into the development of anti-poverty policy at local and national levels. This event is for everyone who wants to better understand the Scottish Government’s approach to addressing child poverty, who wants to know how child poverty is being tackled in North Ayrshire, and who wants to contribute to shaping local and national priorities. The event is free to attend, with travel and caring costs reimbursed for people living on a low income. Please let us know (by emailing [email protected]) if you will need these costs covered.
