Spray foam insulation is insulation that has been applied in liquid form, then expanded to make a thick foam. There are two types of spray foam insulation: closed cell and open cell. Closed cell spray foam insulation, although more expensive and dense, is more effective at keeping out moisture and has a higher R value. Open cell spray foam insulation is less expensive, more affordable, and has lower R-value. It can also be used where closed cell foam cannot.
